Hi!

Just wanted to share this info..

I love the music of SH4, but I also enjoy he old music of SH3.

I have both the original games so I decided to add the old SH3 music tracks to the new game so that both the new tracks and the SH3 tracks will be played according to the different states you are in the game.

Then the game will have even more great music tracks!

How to add the SH3 music to SH4:

* Open the file: DATA/SOUND/MUSIC/music.cfg

* Replace all the content with this:

[GENERAL]
CertainityTime=1
MinDuration=20
FadeTime=2

[STATES]
States=8
State1=BEGIN
State2=NORMAL
State3=BATTLE
State4=TENSION

* Use a sound program to reduce the volume to all the *.ogg files slightly in the SH4 music directory, forexample VCTEA Audio Editor X. (The volume level of all the SH4 music files are a lot louder than the SH3 music files.

* If you have installed the SH3 game go to the folder DATA/SOUND/MUSIC/music.cfg

* Copy all of the files EXCEPT (This is important) music.cfg.

* Enjoy both the SH3 and SH4 tracks :D

NOTE! You can open ogg files with Media player 11, so to test how much you should reduce the volume of a SH4 file try one file before reducing volume of all. Then you know what level is equal for the SH3 and SH4 music files!

Kake, this is some great work, the variety of music from both games is a nice touch, and a welcome addition.

In stock SH4 there is a slight pause between the music tracks, maybe 2 - 3 seconds?

with this uh, mod, ;) in place, the tracks seem to 'run together'. with your experience working with these files is there a way to re-introduce this pause with this modification?

Cool! :up:

Personally, I go into battle to the strains of Carmina Burana, or something equally stirring. I haven't played about with the in-game sound files, I just use the gramophone. One thing I must test is whether, or not, the DDs detect you easier if you have the gramophone playing - Remember in Hunt For Red October that the sonar-guy aboard the US sub heard "singing" just before Red October engaged the caterpillar drive and disappeared?

Hey mate!

I'm sorry - Didn't see that post.
I haven't really thought about that - but after I read this post I started to recognize it while playing.
I guess the songs must be edited manually to add the "pause" between. Have you tried adding a higher value to "fade time"?

By the way when I heard through the files I recognized there is a missing part of the SH4 volumeadjusted song called Battle_3.ogg. It's supposed to be 2min and 9 seconds long - but mine was only 1.20. Can you check yours and see how long it is, and then PM me? ;)

I'm not sure about the certainity line. It would be interesting to try to edit it and see what happens.

[GENERAL]
CertainityTime=6
MinDuration=50
FadeTime=10

I think it sounds smoother... :) could just be placebo effect though...

Jon,
I like the 4, 40, and 8 setting, i felt like the 6, 50 and 10 was a little too mushy :) i like playing with the 3 series music mixed in, they are all great tracks to sub too!

Hmm, I'll try those settings then to see if I like them better as well. Thanks for your help! :up:

Cool. Found my old Seawolf game from '94. The soundtrack is quite good here actually. Think I'll try to add some of the music from this game! :up:

After some testing I found that some of the great soundtracks from the game is never used.

When checking the music.cfg file located in DATA/SOUND/MUSIC folder I found that for instance all the tracks located under [HIGH TENSION] is never played in the game. Sad as these tracks are great.

To enable these tracks open the music.cfg file located in the directory described above.

Change the contents of the file to this:

[GENERAL]
CertainityTime=1
MinDuration=20
FadeTime=2

[STATES]
States=8
State1=BEGIN
State2=NORMAL
State3=BATTLE
State4=TENSION
State5=HIGH TENSION
State6=VICTORY
State7=DEFEAT
State8=JOY

[BEGIN]
Tracks=5
Track1=Intro_1.ogg
Track2=Intro_2.ogg
Track3=Intro_3.ogg
Track4=Intro_4.ogg
Track5=Intro_5.ogg

[NORMAL]
Tracks=6
Track1=Stalker_1.ogg
Track2=Stalker_2.ogg
Track3=Stalker_3.ogg
Track4=Stalker_4.ogg
Track5=Stalker_5.ogg
Track6=Stalker_6.ogg

[BATTLE]
Tracks=6
Track1=Battle_1.ogg
Track2=Battle_2.ogg
Track3=Battle_3.ogg
Track4=Battle_4.ogg
Track5=Battle_5.ogg
Track6=Battle_6.ogg

[TENSION]
Tracks=10
Track1=Tension_1.ogg
Track2=Tension_2.ogg
Track3=Tension_3.ogg
Track4=Tension_4.ogg
Track5=Tension_5.ogg
Track6=High_Tension_1.ogg
Track7=High_Tension_2.ogg
Track8=High_Tension_3.ogg
Track9=High_Tension_4.ogg
Track10=High_Tension_5.ogg

[HIGH TENSION]
Tracks=5

[VICTORY]
Tracks=3
Track1=Victory_1.ogg
Track2=Victory_2.ogg
Track3=Victory_3.ogg

[DEFEAT]
Tracks=3
Track1=Defeat_1.ogg
Track2=Defeat_2.ogg
Track3=Defeat_3.ogg

[JOY]
Tracks=5
Track1=Joy_1.ogg
Track2=Joy_2.ogg
Track3=Joy_3.ogg
Track4=Joy_4.ogg
Track5=Joy_5.ogg

This will add the HIGH TENSION files to the TENSION state! :rock:

its really interesting but too confusing for me

so ... lets say that one has the original score for " Das Boot "
and wants to replace the music from those "tension" and etc ... moments
so one has to change mp3 to ogg and then what ?
