I'm impressed!
Great work!
Really nice little detail,
this conflicts with Beery's RFB and PTM mods, I took the time to merge the files
if anyone uses those mods and wants to use this one as well let me know and I'll
up the files...again nice work

Ditto, nice one man!:yep:
Now we only need something similar with the Skippers...historically correct skipper with the right boat...sounds like SH3 Commander... actually :p

Excellent! Outstanding! Grade-A! The way it should have been in the first place (not having the game, I was unaware that it wasn't this way, but still...)!
Did I mention I think it's pretty neat? SH1 had this, but they had the SS numbers for the S-boats wrong. In that game it was fixed by one of 'Hawk's Silent Hunter Utilities'. I'm glad things like this are getting noticed and fixed.
Devil's in the details :D
Great to see these small-but-important mods that you're doing
Glad you guys like this. :)
One funny thing I found while editing these files: there are two entries for one boat - one for the original USS Squalus and then one for USS Sailfish - even though the Squalus "ceased to exist" more than two years before the American entry into the war.:rotfl:

There isn't one for 'Squailfish'?
Oh, wait, that was just a nickname.

Is this ok to use with RFB mod?
Is this ok to use with RFB mod?
Of course. All this mod does is add the SS name to your boat.
Just spotted this. Can I incorporate this in RFB? Realistic details like this are just the sort of thing I'm into.

Hi,
Nice detail!
Just downloaded it, but can I use it mid-patrol? I'm guessing not?

Did this ever get done (making this not conflict with the RFB mod and available for D/L)? I'm running RFB 1.22a (tweaked a little for some of the latest info on flying subs etc) at the moment, but would love to use this.
Also - was there an answer to the question about whether you could install this safely mid-patrol?
Thanks for the great work

Sure thing. :)
Just got back home and caught this one Luke... nice job.
I added this mod in the middle of a career and my boat is not showing a new name, even on a new patrol. Should it? Or do I have to start a new career or upgrade to a new boat for it to kick in?

As a general rule, never enable (or disable) a mod unless your in port, and not on patrol.

The boat name is one of the values that are placed in special career-related files at the start of a career (and when you change boats). The new names may show up when you get back to base if the game updates that part of the career data, but probably it won't show up until a new career is started.

Does this mod also put the SS numbers on the conning tower and on the bow of the ship?
From what I've heard they supposedly painted out those numbers in wartime.

Does this mod also put the SS numbers on the conning tower and on the bow of the ship? No, but it will put the right (Historically correct ) "SS-XXX" in to all Logs etc.
From the 1st post in this thread ;)

Brilliant Work lukeff!
Brilliant Work lukeff!
Thanks. :) At some point here I'm going to update this mod with the correct patrol dates for each boat. Right now the game uses the boat's date of commission to determine when it becomes available to use in-game. In reality it was months between a boat's date of commission and the beginning of its first war patrol. This update will fix that problem.

Right!
Here's a start on commissioning plaques I have done for boat's as apart of the kill flags mod:

Do I understand you to be saying that you haven't got SH IV Steve? I am amazed! Loyalty to SH III or what?
By the way I too think this kind of attention to detail is outstanding. Great work.

Thanks! Like I said above, I still plan on updating this mod even further. It's just that I'm really absorbed right now with ROW. :D

well wouldnt it be proper then to just remove/delete the "USS Squalus" from the file?
well wouldnt it be proper then to just remove/delete the "USS Squalus" from the file?
Yes, but considering the date for the Squalus's last appearance is before the war began, it's kind of a moot point. It'll be removed nonetheless.

No, I've been without a permanent residence for more than a year. I haven't been able to play anything at all. I'll be buying SH4 soon, even though I won't be able to play it for another couple of months.
