[REL] Hi-res Gato skin

Hello captains..

Here an extra for all you Gato skippers that do not use USS Gato.
This version is based on both USS Whale and USS Silversides.
These boats were very similar to the later Balao class boat in appearance.

Not the Salmon. But a Gato hi-res. This model is based on the late 1943/1944 USS Gato. The Salmon will come a little later. The Gato is much simeler to the Balao.
So a conversion was a lot easier.

To be honest, I prefer your high res, fresh off the line skins over the weathered ones.

Don't worry, I'm not turning it into a rustbucket. Subs were repainted in port all the time, so there wasn't much chance for rusting.
The vessels in SH4 are way too overweathered and rusted. This is just wrong in my opinion.

Finally got my new card and got to try out the skins.

Sweet mother this is a pretty game, way more so with the pretty skins. It all seems so.....smooth and perfect.

I cannot promise, I've already played a bit with it.
Using black textures make the boat really shiney.. not matt black.

Have you tried making the light maps darker?...never looked at it but in theory could work...thinking loud here.

I was also thinking about that when I was writing my last post.
I will try that.. But probably tuesday soonest.
I have a very busy weekend coming up with a lot of oldtimer (cars) meetings.

I never like rusty skins (sh3/sh4) i think that in one month at port they can paint the sub easily.

and its a game, my crew spent several hours painting the sub :rotfl: .

Last night I started a new career and got the Gato class USS Whale
I was just checking out some pictures and saw that her portholes are quit different from USS Gato.

I will make a few adjustments to make her look like USS Whale and USS Silversides
I did not know that within types there were so much differences.
This job is pretty easy because I can use 95% of the Hi-res Balao skin which is very similar to this Gato type.

There are so many differences in the sub's appearances even among same types. Constant upgrades and modifications basically caused no two to be the same.

Regarding the different limber hole configurations, that depended on where they were built. The ones coming out of Electric Boat or Portsmouth were very different from the ones coming out of Manitowoc or Mare Island.

Thanks for the info :up: I knew that there were some differences.
Just not that they could be so big.
I think I can release the USS Whale / Silversides this weekend.
And then go back to the Salmon skin, people are getting a bit nervous over there :rotfl: :rotfl:
