View Full Version : [TEC] The magic weather control key
Hi everybody.
I'm using the keyboard function mod, which maps Control-N to "nearest sound contact", and I think I found something really odd.
Every time I use that command while looking outside, the weather changes. To be more precise, it changes to partial clouds, no fog, no rain, 4 m/s wind speed. One moment there are no clouds, the next they are there :o
Am I the only seeing this? I think it's some kind of developer backdoor, but it sure will help with those month-long storms.

Confirmed!! I used it while on the bridge, and it instantly changed the weather, to the same weather you had. One second was clouds clear, no precipitation, light fog, wind 15m/s dir 117....I did Ctrl-N on the bridge, instantly clouds partial, precipitation none, fog none, wind 4m/s dir 0.
I'm using patch 1.2, and several other mods including Ducimus Flavored to Taste 2_2 mod.
Edit: Removed all mods. Started a war patrol. Hit Ctrl-N, and it appeared to do the same thing, tho I couldn't pull up the weather report, the clouds instantly changed just as it did above. And if I recall, in the stock game Ctrl-N isn't actually mapped to anything is it?
:o
I haven't had this. I'm starting to suspect this may have something to do with the main.cfg's debugging features being enabled - maybe this is some sort of test code that was originally there. I have them disabled in main.cfg (the one in my documents/sh4/cfg/ - you may want to try that too...

If you mean the [DEVELOPING] section of the C:\Program Files\...\Data\Cfg\main.cfg mine is set as follows:
DevDebugEnable=No
DevEditEnable=No
MiniDump=No
However I now see there is also a main.cfg file under the SH4\data\cfg directory in My Documents. This one is set the same except MiniDump=Yes. I will change this to No and retest this.
Edit: Removed all mods to get a vanilla 1.2, loaded a war patrol. Weather clear, no clouds. Pressed Ctrl-N and voila...instant clouds. I find it interesting CCIP that you don't get this magic weather key in yours, even in vanilla 1.2?
I'm gonna give this a look. I use the key all the time when getting attacked, and while I had the clouds present in all recent attacks I could recall, I do remember seeing varying weather conditions (that sorta made my attacks messy)...

Bubble bubble toil and trouble, sonar man change this weather on the double!:arrgh!:
Confirmed -good find! ...now about the remedy?
*** This Just in:
Stratus Clouds moving from right to left. I press CTRL + N a few times and the coulds seem to rewind back to a reset point at which you can hold them in place on the rightside of screen. hmmm No effect on Windspeed thou. Did (Ctrl + W) while hitting Ctrl+N a few times.
Anyone tried this in an actual storm?
Hm. If it's true, then the first thing I'll do is change the sonar shortcuts for a new version of my keyboard control mod (which I was planning to put out tonight anyway with some minor additions) :hmm:

It seems a dev cheat for weather...:doh: and unremoved for the rushed release to the market.
I have seen this too. I mapped my own keys & use ctl+N for "Max Range at Current Speed". It will cause the same effect. I just quit using it on the bridge.
I can confirm it now too...
What a bizzare function :dead:
I'm toying around with the idea (well, I already plugged it into my own game) of mapping a whole bunch of 'trash functions' onto that key so that you can't press it without consequences. A bit of a silly workaround. Should I include it in the next version of my Keyboard mod, or pass on that?

Wouldn't bother, I'm sure the devs will fix it (eventually).
Should bring the thread to their attention, though - someone want to PM our visitor dev with the thread link?

That is pretty awesome; I'll have to give it a try. I attack, wind or snow, but man those calm-sea external camera views are splendid.
