PULL DOWN PACIFIC MAP for SH4 for Patch V1.3
made by
CAPTAIN COX
Additional Features in Revision A:
New Search Patterns/New Icon in the Orders Bar
Added Weather Report/New Icon in the Orders Bar
Added Distance to Course End/New Icon in the orders Bar
Green Button MOD for Fuel, Battery etc.
Transparent Message Window
New Position for the Event Cam
New Position for the Clock (will revise this later as it opens to high for many I think)
This is a MOD I have wanted to do since the game came out.
Unfortunately we have not been able to do an "OBJECT" that can be moved around in the game interface on its own. So what I have done here is "the dirty way" of doing things.
My thinking was basically to use a "object" that is already in the game but is not used all the time, I decided to utilize the "Gramophone Interface" to accomplish what I wanted to do. But no worries, the actual functions of the Gramophone is still there.
As this mod uses the "menu_1024_768" plus utilizes Data/Graphics that was required to make the MOD,
I decided to include some "Popular" MOD's that uses the "menu_1024_768"
These include:
"Changed HUD Lamp Color" made by "jimimadrid" and "DarkShip"(As I had to implement a new ICON for the MAP)
"Mini-chronometer" made by "chomu" (This is one i think a lot of ppl use anyway, including me)
"Battle Stations and Silent Running buttons on all Hud menus. made by "Iceberg" (I use it myself plus I added "CRASH DIVE" and the "PULLDOWN MAP" Buttons at all stations.
I also included mine and zAmboni's "Smaller Vintage Navigation Tools"

Additional Features in 1.3 Revision A
http://img353.imageshack.us/img353/6638/pulldownmapnewvl4.jpg
There is TWO Versions of this MOD!
One with the COMPLTE! Pacific Map (my feeling is that the RESOLUTION IS NOT THE BEST!, but I include that just in case some one wants it)
One with the IMPORTANT AREAS, Transport lanes, Fly Zones etc. (Best Resolution!) (SHOWN IN THE PICTURE ABOVE)
WARNING THIS MOD USES THE "menu_1024_768" and will overwrite any previous MOD's Using the "menu_1024_768"
If you want to install this MANUALY as a STANDALONE VERSION OF ONLY THE PULL DOWN MAP! READ THE "README"!!! Included in the MOD.
CREDITS TO!
"jimimadrid"
"DarkShip"
"chomu"
"Iceberg"
"zAmboni" MASTER OF THE ZONE!
"vanjast" Giving hints and aslo trying hard!
If i forgot someone please post in the thread and I will correct it IMMEDIATELY!!!
Enjoy!

lol...nice idea combining all the numerous menu_1024_768 mods to make it more marketable. I've pretty much come to the realization that manually entering the mods is the only way to go if you want to get things done right. Nice idea with that big map. I'd use it if I didn't have that same map hanging above me stuck to the wall behind my monitors.

This is one SWEEET bit of work. Seriously, this is a major step forward for SH4. I was trying to do this at the very get go, but after a couple half hearted attempts i gave up on it.
I have a suggestion. One that im sure everyone will appreciate.
Could you add another pulldown page to this mod?
As you may or may not know, in SH3 we had a speed/ range chart to plot intercpets. VERY HANDY. Looked like this in SH3, please pardon the svwasticka Herr KapitanKox:
http://www.ducimus.net/sh4/table.jpg
An english/imperial version of this was my orginal goal. Of which i failed miserably. I honestly just lacked any enthusiasm for messing with that Ini file that ive come to hate so much after monkeying around with it in SH3.
This is why in my mod pack, i used this isntead as a poormans supsititue:
http://www.ducimus.net/sh4/release/help_range_chart.jpg
Im sure you get the idea. At anyrate, i have to say again, this is an important piece of work you just posted and i have a feeling will be the base mod from which others may derive something else from. (not me however, im sick of that file, not touching it. nah uh)

Thanks a bunch "Ducimus"
Well this is the problem...as we have not been able to make a "proper" standalone "movable" object we are pretty stuck with whats in the game already...
Now I used the Gramophone for this...but what would be next on the list to cannibalize?...I think until we have a major breakthrough with understanding as to how to create the "Code" group (if at all possible) to do a movable object we are pretty stuck.
But I know exactly what you mean, and i could also think of other stuff that would be really nice to have as pull downs (there is a lot detailed maps of each of the bigger islands on the net for e.g.)
EDIT: I will of course pursue the answer to create a standalone movable object. Actually I will stick out my neck here...does any one of you guys have a @ adress to any of the SH4 DEV's...if so please PM me. I would keep it 100% private of course!
OMG! What a seriously cool mod, thanks very much. At this rate you could have the whole game sorted by V1.3.
Keep up the good work :D

Wasn't there a draggable Nomograph mod knocking around somewhere for SH4?
If so, how was that done?
I've been trying to come up with a solution for the pulldown charts too, for the same reason as Ducimus, wanted an imperial chart for speed and distance. I'll keep digging anyway.
CaptainCox
04-21-07, 12:23 PM
I think you mean the one from "vanjast", hes trying to do a Sextant mod, but so far no go. I know there is graphics for a Nomograph but I don't think its draggable.
EDIT! it is but it just replaces an existing item in the game.

can a standalone version be made to and maybe list what needs to me changed in the menu_1024_768 because some of us use different mods that modified that so we can add this great mod without losing the others.
CaptainCox
04-23-07, 09:48 AM
Sure. I basically included a Read-me with the code for a standalone version. But if there is a demand for a standalone ready (down loadable) mod i could do that no problem. I could also include all the code that has been modified in the read-me (other then the map). Can look into it later as I am still at work here.

Hi,
I have a stock SHIV with only patch 1.3 applied. When I enable this mod with JSGME, the map does not seem to work. All the other mods (HUD colors, small stopwatch, small maptools, etc.) work but the map doesn't. I have a yellow icon that says "Gramaphone" but looks like a map on all my HUD sections, but when I click it it does not turn green and no pull down map appears. This happens for all HUD section. I tried both download links and the same happens for both.
Not sure if this is related or not but, the post and the read me say there are 2 types a full map and a partial map, but I don't see anything about how to choose which one to use.
Am I doing something wrong?
Wally

This is indeed strange. There is one more guy I know of that has exactly your problem with the map...:hmm: It should appear as shown in the picture below
http://img386.imageshack.us/img386/2126/mapcorneroz9.jpg
Now i am not sure this has to do with resolution of your screen or something...
The above pic was taken with the latest version 1.3.1
As for the help text...that my bad. Uploading the fixed version now. As for the full and partial version, I decided to skip the full version as the its hard to read. The only version now is the partial , which focuses on the area of operation.

Just tested it at...
1024x768
1280x1024
1400x1050
1680x1050
all @60Hz didn't seem to work at any of those. Maybe a gfx card issue? I have an ATI 1600 (mobility) w/ 256MB.
Wally
CaptainCox
07-18-07, 02:52 PM
Really really strange:o . I can't imagine its a gracard issue. Its just using the Gramophone texture with a map added. Ok its bigger but...
As a matter of fact, the code and graphics for the map did not change since 1.1, as there was no need for it. Never heard of anyone with this problem in the past...:hmm:
Have you tried with all Graphics options on etc. Grasping at straws here. I tell you what...I will upload a much lighter version (just as a test) and lets see if that works....gimme 10 min.
CaptainCox
07-18-07, 03:04 PM
Grab this and see if it works. The texture is like a 4th of the size in the orig mod so it looks crap. Just to see if its your harware that can't cope...its a long shot but.

Fearless, this is an easy fix to get better scopes with this mod...
Add everything in better-scopes to this mod EXCEPT the menu_1024_768.ini, keeping the directories order intact. Just overwrite the better scoped mod to the pull down menu mod (Remember NO ini from better scopes!!!)
Now in the better scopes mod there is a text file of the changes that you need to apply to the menu_1024_768.ini of the pull down mod ...Something like 10 lines of change... Do this with either notepad or notepad 2 (great search function with this free app, so you don't have to keep scrolling to find ini sections) There you go you now have the pull down mod WITH better scopes in one bundle..Apply the mod with JSGME
Get Notepad 2 here: http://www.flos-freeware.ch/notepad2.html

As some guys have questions about how to install this mod (well this apply to any mod really)
1. GET JSGME (Generic Mod Enabler version 1.7.0, this is the latest version)
here http://www.users.on.net/~jscones/software/products/jsgme_setup.exe
JSGME is made by JScones!
1.1 Save anywhere, and run the installer, point it to your SH4 MAIN folder.
1.2 You can select to "CREATE SHORTCUT ON DESKTOP" (makes it easier)
1.3 Click the shortcut once to start up JSGME. Close it.
1.4 Now go to your MAIN SH4 FOLDER and look for a folder called "MODS" (its been created by JSGME), THIS IS THE FOLDER YOU PUT ALL!!!!! YOUR MODS IN!
C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\Silent Hunter 4 Wolves of the Pacific\MODS
Ok now you are read to install this mod (any mod for that matter)
2.
Download the mod and save it "anywhere" I normally save on the Desktop
http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a138/CaptainCox/install1.jpg
2.1
Right click on the RAR folder (packed MOD) on your desktop and select Extract to (in this case) PULL_DOWN_MAP_14_rA)
http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a138/CaptainCox/install2.jpg
2.2
Click the folder that was unpacked on your desktop until you see THIS! (using v1.4 of the Pull Down Map here, other mods will look different)
http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a138/CaptainCox/install3.jpg
2.2
(additional) If you want to be sure that it is the correct folder to install.
(A) KEEP OPENING THE FOLDERS UNTILL YOU SEE A FOLDER CALLED "Data".
(A)
http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a138/CaptainCox/install6.jpg
(B) Then go back UP to the FOLDER ABOVE! This is the one you should install. Like this:
(B)
http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a138/CaptainCox/install7.jpg
2.3
Drag this folder over to your MODS folder in the main SH4 directory
http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a138/CaptainCox/install4.jpg
2.4
Open JSGME (Generic Mod Enabler) and you will see the mod in the left window. Select it and click the ARROW pointing to the RIGHT! to enable it to the game. After you have done this the Mod will appear in the RIGHT window, and you are ready to us it in game.
http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a138/CaptainCox/install5.jpg
I repacked this MOD so it should open ready to drag over (1st post updated with new DL links), without having to navigate to the subfolders. But above sometimes aplies anyway. Better CHECK IF THE NEXT FOLDER DOWN IS CALLED "Data" JUST TO BE SURE!
He CC, I see you STILL have the 25% more powerfull torps:-?

It uses the gramaphone interface to be able to appear in the game kind of replaces it and then the controls for it are at the bottom of the map.
Doolittle81
11-20-07, 11:16 PM
OK. I have the map now. Turns out that at my preferred Game resolution (also my LCD monitor native Res) of 1920X1200 the pull down map-tab didn't show. I changed to 1920X1080 and it shows as advertised.
I like the new buttons and turning green when activated,etc...However, thus far I really don't have any great practical use for the Map itself. Question: Do the convoys in SH4 follow exactly the routes indicated on this map? It seems that the scale of the map is too huge to enable it to be used to actually drive one's boat to a precise Route. If the map were more detailed and zoomable it might be of more use. I may change my mind....but, meanwhile, is there a way to have all the buttons features, but not have the map...and returning that button to the gramaphone feature?

Where can I get a standalone (JPEG?) copy of the map?
Haven't noticed it on the DVD or in the Program Files Directory...
He used the UserGramophone.dds file to make this mod possible and you can find it in the mod directories. You'll have to covert it.

If you want to do it yourself, it's pretty easy.
I'm assuming you already have the mod installed and just want to update it.
Open the folder C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\Silent Hunter 4 Wolves of the Pacific\Data\Menu and copy the menu_1024_768.ini to your MODS\your mod\Data\Menu and make sure you have the edited UserGramophone.dds in MODS\your mod\Data\Menu\Gui.
Next open the copied menu_1024_78.ini file and find:

After doing what I did above, It works fine for me. I hope this helps!
Where can I get a standalone (JPEG?) copy of the map?
Haven't noticed it on the DVD or in the Program Files Directory...
Berinhardt,
You can get a downloadable map at the following site:
http://www.replacementdocs.com/download.php?view.4902
Click on the Blue Arrowhead. It is in a pdf format though.
Hope this helps!
I did have it installed, but it results in a ctd. I tried your suggestion, and I get an error message that says "File not found Hud.tga" Then it CTD.
Here are the mods I have installed before I'm trying to install the pull down menu:
360 degree bearing plotter imperial 1.5

Your help in getting this working would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

Ok, I took out the .cfg file that is in the original and I dont get the error or ctd but I have no pull down corner and the gramaphone button doesn't do anything. I'm running this on a 21" CRT at 1600x1200.
anyone seen or made an update that works with 1.5 uboat?
For those of us that are playing in the pacific that is.

Bump. . . anyone have any other suggestions? Or could help me understand what I may be doing wrong to fix this? I'd really love to have this add on. Pause, alt-tab gets old real fast :D

Can the pull down map be used with 1.5 and compatible with the latest TMO? I'd like to have the map showing the major sea lanes used by the enemy to plan my patrols.

Here ya go. a jpg @ 698KB (size: 2007x1617) Sorry, I had to cut it down by 3/4 as the original was 8MB in size :o.

PS. If someone could do a SH1.4V compatible version of this mod I would thank you greatly. I just got the game 2 days ago, so I don't understand enough yet to correct whatever problems it's having. ( CTD as it can't find some menu items)
Joe
** Edit: nevermind, I got it working as a standalone with various other mods.

Does this mod work with 1.5? Or any of the super mods?
The super mods have been out for some time so I think thats why I'm having trouble finding out what all the mods are that are included in the super mods... I like RFB documentation and how they do damage modeling but TMU seems more my style as I get back into things...
Thanks

TMO Compatible?

Looks like the same map pulldown with the hud mod that is included in TMO1.7
It uses the menu_1024_768.ini file that a bunch of mods use, you just have to see if JSGME warns you about it.
You can find the v1.5 here, it also has a readme so you can ad it manually if some other files uses the menu.ini file
