Okay, here's an updated version of my newsreel replacement intro movie for SH4, I decided that it just wasn't right without a voiceover, since it's supposed to be a 40's era newsreel, so that left me no choice but to script one and act it myself. :D

See what you think, do I deserve an Oscar? (probably not). You can download it from the link below and check it out in windows media player, then if you like it, stick it in the SH4 movies folder replacing the original Intro movie (which has the benefit of freeing up some RAM on start up since it's only about 6 percent of the size of the 'Milton' original intro.

It's here, (5.7 meg), takes about two or three minutes on broadband to download:

Classic type voice over. Nice cinematography too, with the flag etc.
Not wasted on me, that's for sure.
Nice job mate.

Glad you guys liked it, it's hardly something to rival Run Silent Run Deep, but is was fun to do, and if you think my acting is bad (hope not), it certainly couldn't be any worse than that hammy fecker who reads out the Milton poem in the original Intro. Acting aside, I still think that's a really bizarre choice for an intro (might have suited an RN sub sim, maybe it's a language barrier thing), particularly in view of the fact that UBI seemed to be aiming SH4 at a wider audience. Just bizarre in fact, so if my mod helps with the immersion factor, that's great.

I do know that UBI claimed that some of the bizarre things and mistakes in SH4 - notably the USAAF Avro Lancaster with upside down insignia - were blamed on a 'young dev team', but frankly I thought that was a poor excuse when all it required was a 2 minute search on the internet to find out about the B17 and B24, so I suspect that maybe the real reason was probably legal (like the Grumman/Northrop legal issues).

However, if not, modelling a B24 would require virtually the same amount of work as to do a Lancaster, given that they are virtually identically configured, if not identical in appearance (probably easier in fact, since the Davis wing of the B24 isn't cranked like the Lancasters). What is really bizarre though, is that considering B17s and B24s conducted one of the most famous raids of the war actually over Romania - the country where the dev team is - how could they not know about it?

Anyway, since I'm more noted for flightsim mods than subsim ones, that's another I intend to improve. :D
