Well nothing really new with this, the game already lets you upgrade to double 5.25's late in the war, this mod will enable double 3.5's & 4.5's for all boats with the current dates those weapons are available.

There are however a few limitations...unlike the AA guns that have 2 seperate cameras with 2 command buttons and a cycle command to go between them the deck gun only has 1 camera, 1 command button and no cycle function...I find this odd since if I mount 1 gun aft and hit the UI command button it'll take me to the aft gun, if I have both fore and aft guns and hit the command button it'll default and take me to the fore gun with no way to cycle to the aft gun...odd because the dev's took the time to ensure that if 2 guns were mounted that each has a designation in the subs upc file so that it can be damaged or destroyed (M01 - M02) but they diden't take the time to make it so we can cycle between them for use.

The good news is that the AI will man and fire both guns, this brings me to limitation #2...the AI won't select two different targets, both guns will fire on the same target. The cool part is after ordering the AI to fire at a target the player can hop on the foreward gun and fire on a different target, thus 2 different targets at the same time.

This is all very much a WIP and Im mostly doing it just for the fun of it, if anyone has any suggestions that can help or make it better let me know.

This is of course not exactly realistic, its a - just for fun, what if type of mod.
If no one's interested in this I'll drop it.

If you look at it, its also possible to switch out to bofors and others
on the double d/g

interestingly when I was looking it over I am of the
suspician that the double D/G's are D/P's if so then
mounting a dg on one slot and a bofors on the other
using "US_adv_deckgun" type mount then you would be
under that circumstance able to order med and heavy guns
to engage a surface target simultaneous and air too assuming
it bears out in testing.

due to realworld issues this week I havent managed to
get back in to test it yet though.
so d/p properties are as of yet unconfirmed
but what makes me suspect it is the ammo.

if I get to testing it first ill let you know how it goes
if you do could you post it here.

thanks

Hi Mush, I was hoping you would you would put in your 2 cents
I know you did a lot of this kind of work in SH3.
Im rather busy this weekend so I wont have much time for this but I will post
any progress here.

Just another note to those interested in this...this is not intended to be a
"super mod" or "cheat" just an extra weapon for your boat.

so I got a chance to try two items this morning
first I tried to mount the 3"/50 Cal onto an
aa mounting 1 attempt with no success not
even a highlight to unsuccesfully mount it,
(more testing this later)

also I tried two gun configs
in tests yesterday and had
all guns fully and succesfully
manned with working cameras
on all guns except aft dg

however this morning when in test 2
i mounted a twin bofors aft on the
US adv Double d/g mount the following
results occured.

1 when d/g ordered manned crew appeared to only
man front but as turned out later they may have
manned only one side of the bofors on this order
and I was on the wrong side so the absence of
crew on this order may have been an illusion.
(see pic, indeterminate if crewman present at this stage)

I ordered the AA guns manned and thats when I noticed
that all AA guns including the new one were manned
by only one guy even though they were fully crewed
on the managment screen.
(no pic available, all guns manned d/g by two AA guns all by one crewman)

moving forward I gave the order for deckguns to engage
the target (Gearing? in the distance on the left) the main
deckgun engaged the target and against my hopes the
aft bofors did not engage the target. after a minute
the tug came across the front so with one of the gun stoppage
actions of uberboot being to man the gun yourself and
cap off a few rounds I manned the "AA gun" myself
I didnot go to upper fore or aft aa guns surpisingly
when I hit pause in the middle of my shoot and took
the screenie I was on the aft deckmounted aa gun
and the camera had been working for the first time in
the double gun tests aft of the conning tower.

the data arent enough to call the research done but its
data none the less.

Issues were why didnt deck bofors engage target how is
it that the crew only half manned aa guns how can I
stimulate the deck bofors to choose and respond to
deckgun targets. and why in the first test was
a Unable to make a 3" aa gun.

thats about it for now, if I get more Ill let you know.

Ditto. Especialy if you can work out the cycle between the two guns and seprate targets.

In six months of uber there was no way found to get the
d/g's to target seperate targets unless using the
manual method described in shads first post.

ie. designate a target for the ai gunners and then man
to fwd gun personally and engage a different target.
