Is there a list available for all the allied ports and what ships they harbor?

In both Grew Wolves (GW1.1a) and GWX there are ships in every harbour. If you're looking for capital ships check out this list

Moored capital ships (spoiler)

Below are the dates and locations of moored capital ships, extracted from the game data files and listed in chronological order. Note that the dates only seem approximate.

1939/09/15 - 1939/10/10, Auxiliary Cruiser, Scapa Flow
1939/10/04 - 1939/10/14, Battleship Revenge, Scapa Flow
1939/11/01 - 1940/01/05, Battleship Nelson, Loch Ewe
1940/03/01 - 1940/05/01, Auxiliary Cruiser, Scapa Flow
1940/03/07 - 1940/04/25, Aircraft Carrier Illustrious, Scapa Flow
1940/04/01 - 1940/06/01, Auxiliary Cruiser, Scapa Flow
1940/05/17 - End of war, Fiji Light Cruiser, Loch Ewe
1940/05/24 - 1940/06/30, Dido Light Cruiser, Scapa Flow
1940/12/11 - 1940/12/31, Battleship King George V, Scapa Flow
1941/02/01 - 1941/02/17, Auxiliary Cruiser, Scapa Flow
1941/02/10 - 1941/03/20, Auxiliary Cruiser, Scapa Flow
1942/02/03 - 1942/02/28, Battleship King George V, Scapa FlowOverlapping dates mean there are 2 ships in the same harbor, ex. Oct. 9 1939 both Revenge and Aux. Cruiser are in Scapa Flow

Why do there are so few moored capital ships in ports ?
I mean, does the appearance of moored capital ships in GW and GWX is historical ? :hmm:

I just would have been happy to find some more battleships moored near Scapa Flow and Loch Ewe.

:p :arrgh!:

That's correct. The dates I posted are stock dates but they do exist in GWX as well. As far as I know there is no list of the GWX dates. If anyone knows anything about such a list I'm more than interested in it :arrgh!:

If you wnt more Capitol ships in Scapa Flow, you're a bit too late. ;) The German Dreadnaught Fleet from WWI was scuttled by the Germans and lies on the bottom at Scapa in WWII. :yep:

Tis true, but I'm just trying to make some light humor on the lack of them in SHIII. It would be nice to see more Capitol ships in any harbor for both sides but i wonder how much it would affect gameplay.

:p :arrgh!: Hi!

It is true there were usually many more ships in harbors IRL than in GWX, but sinking ships in port in SH3 is like shooting fish in a barrel, so the GWX team needed to reconcile the ease of sinking ships in harbor with the historical reality that it didn't happen very often at all. The reason appears to be that SH3 makes it easy by making every harbor deep enough to hide a submerged U-boat anywhere in the harbor, but IRL very few harbors in the entire world are naturally deep enough for this to happen (and even then it is only in the dredged shipping channels). For example, U-47 was on the surface the entire time it was in Scapa Flow when it torpedoed HMS Royal Oak. :o Try that in GWX and let us know how it goes! :p

Harbor defenses were also much more formidable IRL than they are in GWX. Real harbors had real submarine nets (i.e., they covered the entire harbor entrance and were opened only long enough to allow ship traffic to pass), remote-controlled anti-submarine minefields and hydrophone fields, and human-controlled ASW vessels and aircraft that would not run aground while hunting a submarine in small harbor.

Anyways, it seems to me that limiting the incentive to harvest ships in harbor is a simple way of stopping folks from racking up huge kill numbers by exploiting the depth of SH3 harbors.
