Real Binoculars Mod v.1.0 (Compatible with patch 1.2)

Improved the default binoculars to give a much more realistic feeling.

2 versions:

- Maintain the red crosshair.

- Without red crosshair, to improve realism. (Orders given by binoculars will still work)

Install by JSGME or manually replace the files in the .rar on their respective folder.

**WARNING FOR NO CROSSHAIR USERS**

"No crosshair" version can NOT be used at the same time with other mods that modify the file "menu_1024_768.cfg". If you have another mod that modifies this file and want to remove the crosshair read the ReadMe included for instructions.

No sorry, this is for SH4 only. Iīve tried to make a SH3 version for you but donīt know why Photoshop doesnīt let me save a .tga with alpha to use in SH3...:damn: Iīll keep trying... :up:

Yes the "RealBinoculars" (maintains Red Crosshairs) version does work with 1.2 -I'm using them now. But there may be a true 1.2 version coming.

Just place the \RealBinoculars\ folder in your \MODS folder and use JSGME.

Yeah this mod was released after v.1.2 patch, both versions of the boincoculars are full compatible with it. You should not have any problem with the file "menu_1024_768.cfg" but if you have, please tell me :up:

Yes, sorry, the cross is yellow and turns red when pointing an enemy ship :D

when i edit the menu_1024_768.ini per the instructions in your readme all i get is a blackened screen without the binocular 'frame'. can you please doublecheck that

without the adjusted entries for that block your binocluar.dds works fine, so something's up there...

mmm... itīs really strange... that code is OK. Here is mine:

This modification of the code just removes the cross... it should not affect the texture...

Some questions:

Have you modified the file manually or did you install via JSGME? If you used JSGME try modifing the stock file (with no changes of other mods) manually...

So, if you let the code as default the binocs appear fine WITH the crosshair right? So obviously the problem is in the crosshair removal... I would bet this is a graphic card problem... :hmm:Could you please post your system specs? (ATI/nvidia specially)

i haven't modified the .dds. also, i don't use jsgme and so manually modified the [g27 i12] block in the same way as you have there. without the modified block the binoculars display appropriately with the crosshair.
i'm running on a geforce 7900gs and haven't encountered any other problems with .dds file handling...

i'm going to try using your included menu_1024_768.ini and see what happens. 'will report back.

edit: ok, so no joy there with the included menu_1024_768.ini...
what occurs to me though is that i haven't upgraded to 1.2 yet (my s-boat, empty of torpedos and conserving fuel like gold, is still on it's odyssean journey from the china sea down to freemantle and i only use max tc of 128), and as i look at the file variance list from 1.1 to 1.2 it seems that menu_1024_768.ini did get worked on, so perhaps it's the case that the no-crosshairs solution is not backwards compatible? that'd clear things up i'm guessing (and i probably should've specified "using 1.1" sooner).

so, any ideas on how to make it work for 1.1?

Ohh! Yeah probably thatīs the problem... I did this mod when 1.2 was released. But anyway itīs still strange becouse I think the block [G27 I12] has not been modified in patch 1.2... I think this block has not been modified since SH3 becouse I took the info to remove the cross from a SH3 mod! :o

Also I donīt think itīs a graphic card problem, I have nvidia too...

yeah, the [G27 I12] is the same and it should work...

with the [G27 I12] block sections commented out per your instructions i do get the bearing indicator on the top, but everything else is solid black... restore the [G27 I12] to stock and presto! the binocular.dds is back with the crosshairs...

In the stock game binoculars, when I remove the Orders bar by pressing NumPad Del, I have a gap I can see through at the bottom of the screen. I am using 1280x960 resolution so I guess it is this that is the cause.

Does this mod fix that? If not can I alter the file or the menu ini to stretch it to fill the whole screen easily?

I guess I just need to add a few numbers somewhere, but it is finding the right ones...
