It's just you. You have a one-track mind.
Just like Pilgrim and Frenssen; "always returning to subject number one".:rotfl:

I don't know about anyone else, but I really hate mods that are made executable for no reason. I appreciate the effort, but asking me to trust an executable to do something I am perfectly capable of doing, or that unzip/unrar can do - is inappropriate.

U56_Dragon, I apologize for my caution and question, but I am uncomfortable with .exe's too. I never know what functions they will execute. A Read Me text in the posting, saying how it functions and exactly what it creates or where it creates files, would be greatly appreciated. The initial screens look quite nice, but why is an .exe needed for JGSME ready files?

I think inappropriate was the perfect word.
It conveys that JSGME is intended to allow modifications without executables, and going back to exe is not the proper way to distribute a mod that can be handled by JSGME. It also attaches no motive or negative connotation as to his motives.
There is a better way, easier for the developer and more comfortable for the user. Zip, RAR, or 7z please.

Hello,
I just like to use the installer program to install mods into JSGME.
If you all would like them in a Zip or RAR format. I can do this. I will have the files for download in this format soon.
I assure you I would not place anything for download that is infected.
I want to be a part of this community. I wouldn't dare.
:)

Clayton,
I assume this was pointed at me. Sorry you saw it as stuffiness. It was actually intended as protective.
There are a lot of people who have bad computing habits, and being unneccessarily trusting of people who are actually strangers is the -original- bad habit that pre-dates computing.
Asking for extra trust without any real need is not something you should do out of the box either, and when people do it it should raise your eye-brows.
Don't ask the little old lady if she wants you to carry her purse while you help her across the street ! If you ask to carry her purse, she will be frightened. It is not neccessary or appropriate. Just help her cross.
So I communicated this without accusing, hoping to change behavior. I actually understand why a lot of people are suprised or even offended at my attitude, but what I am saying is perfectly sensible.
There is a place for EXE's but distributing JSGME Mods is not it.

Someone who goes out of their way to supply the community a modification to a game we all enjoy, should not have his / her work labeled as inappropriate. Though I agree with your assessment of executable files and the viruses they may contain, a simple thank you and a request for modification to the standard here at Subsim would have been a better course of action. No worries...

I DID express appreciation. I did NOT label his work in any way, nor did I malign him personally in any way. I let him know the problem, fairly directly. His response was totally appropriate and mature.
But apparently I rubbed you the wrong way...

Hello,
I am 41 years old, I did not take this post as anything but a greatly pointed out fact. Virus and spyware troubles me here at "The Lair" too. I fully understood his concern. In my group of simmers, they like the self installers. It is easy for them to install correctly, as was pointed out, some people don't have the computing skills to know what to do with files given to them to use in sims. I help to make it simple for them. I was once new to the PC world, I know the help I was given to better my understanding 12 years ago, so I try to do the same in return for all others.
It is no big deal for me to zip up my creations for the community. I will make sure they are JSGME ready. I love this sim and the people I have met do to it.
I thank you all for being up-front with me, instead of ignoring what could be a very cool MOD by it's install being an EXE. I will have more mods as the time goes by, and now I know how to package them friendly for the community. :D
I am working on a Vargas Girl menu mod next.
