Even though I have ParaB's mod installed to reduce frequency of messages I am still having big problems with the length of time it takes to 'reload' the message pad. This seems to increase the further I go into a patrol and, although I set the pad to 'messages sent' to speed up the reload time it is when I attempt to read a SubPac message that the problem occurs, I might add at this point that I read all SubPac messages as they appear. I noted in the past that sometimes I was receiving the same lengthy info. a number of times, in fact on one occasion the very lengthy message concerning the Battle of Santa Cruz appeared no less that 12, yes 12 times one after the other so if this is not a BIG BUG, what is? This particular one took ages and ages to reload :-? Does anyone know where the files concerning the SubPac messages are located and if so would it be possible to edit these. I do not need to know the names, addresses, age, next of kin, gender etc. etc. of men who have fallen in a battle, it would suffice for me to know eg. a particular area was full of Japs or a base was no longer available and if na edit is possible then I could change the text to my requirements. maybe this would then speed the reload time up a bit. I know that this problem has been brought up many times but for me it really is an ar##ache. Looking forward, as are many, to the next patch release, even though it seems that the patch will not resolve this problem.

kevtherev, I agree with you, getting these same lengthy and annoying messages over and over and over again is annoying to say the least. Like you, I've gotten some of them a dozen times in one day!

is this the message you're talking about?

"Yesterday, during the Battle of Santa Cruz, north of Guadalcanal, between U.S. and Japanese fleets resulted in the loss of the aircraft carrier Hornet, while the enemy carriers were badly damaged. The battle has been costly for U.S. Navy, but combined with the Marines victory at Guadalcanal, they have turned back the attempted Japanese parry in the Solomons. Our losses of one carrier and one destroyer were more severe than the enemy loss of a light cruiser, yet the battle gained time to reinforce Guadalcanal against the enemy onslaught. The damage of the two Japanese carriers and the major loss of air crews with sharply curtail their air cover for the future in the Guadalcanal area."

If so, I've finally found out where they are kept - the one above is here:

C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\Silent Hunter Wolves of the Pacific\Data\Sound\Radio\Washington\Events\News_19 42_09.ogg.ini

There are two of each file, i.e. News_1942_09.ogg and News_1942_09.ogg.ini. The .ogg file is an audio file that will play on the Washington radio station if you have your radio on at the right time. The .ini file contains the full text of the radio report and shows up in your message log. Guess UBI wanted to make sure you don't miss the message if your radio is off???

I suppose you could try deleting the .ini files (back 'em up 1st just in case!) and maybe that would fix the problem. Or maybe it would just create an empty entry in the message log 12 times?

HTH!

Yes Harry, that indead was one of the messages. I have now made a backup of the 'events' folder and deleted all the .ini files except the event.ini
Will now run a patrol over the next couple of days and observe the results and keep posted. If this 'mod' does solve the problem then well done sir and thanks a million.
