View Full Version : Mod confusion, new to this...
Hello,
I am wanting to install some of the great mods that are here, but I'm very confused about how to install mods.
1. I think I need to install JSGME first
this should automatically create a folder and everything?
2. I dont understand the "everything is relative" part of the instructions.
3. woah, reading the "how to" section is really mind blowing. I'm having great trouble understanding it.
If you could help me with a check list for installing everything, and maybe give an example on how to do this, I would appreciate it very much.
thanks
PS, sorry about the extreme noobness of this post, I just have no idea, even after reading the "how to" section, about anything related to Mods.
Ok, after JSGME is installed you should have a shortcut for it on your desktop.
Now go to My Computer\C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\Silent Hunter Wolves of the Pacific
(typical) and create a folder called "Mods"
After d/l a mod just extract it to that folder (make sure to view the readme to be sure it is compatible)
Now click the JSGME shortcut on your desktop you should see available mods in the
left hand pane...the rest is self explanatory.
Hope this helps :D

To add to shad43's point, the JSGME will create a folder called MODS and a folder called BACKUP in the SH4 root Directory. I Right clicked on my MODS folder and selected 'Create Desktop shortcut' and had a shortcut to that folder placed on the Desktop.
When you download a Mod, you'll first need to 'extract' or unzip the file, at which point you will see it as a standard windows folder. Now you can drag and drop the extracted file into your MODS folder. When you enable a mod within JSGME, the original file you're replacing is placed in the BACKUP folder. When you disable your mod, the original file is returned.

No. This is NEVER required.
Some Vista users are finding that JSGME is not creating the MODS folder when it is first run and accordingly they are trying to create it manually themselves (and thus spreading the belief that "it must be done"). This is NOT the right thing to do - all users need to do is right-click JSGME.exe and select "Run as Administrator". With the next release of JSGME I'll include Vista running instructions, but anyone now used to Vista will know what to do anyway.
One of Vista's "improved security" features.

JSGME is an excellent tool for those of us who don't like messing with files and who like the modding process to be as simple as possible. It's offered as free software, but you can make a donation at the website.
I made a donation recently and I would urge others to consider doing so. The cause is worthy. :D

Hi Mr Scones, and greatings, just curious, if I take JSGME and stick it into another game, lets say STALKER, or Rome Total War or anything else, will it work the same way for all

JScones,
That's how I originally found out about JSGME before I got into SH3, playing RTW. I recently went back to the older 1.4.1.50 version of JSGME though as the right clicking on a mod in the right side pane no longer brought up the list of files so that I could read the docs.
Also the new version opens up an explorer window instead of a list of files in the documentation folder.
Thanks alot, guys.
I knew I was going to have trouble with this before I even started.
and thanks for the heads-up for donations :yep:

JSGME and SHCommander are the two best stand alone mods ever made
IMHO. Especially when used with the great GWX the best Supermod again
IMHO.
