I've made 2 skins for Balao and Gato.
They are less weathered then the original ones.

I have a question. When the sun is on the boat you can still see the original textures thru the new ones.. Did I missed something in editing or is there somekind of alpha layer ?

I am talking about the dark grey part of the boat.
On my textures there is not that much weathering.
So it must come from somewere else ?

Look in the "O" files ;) same folder as the .DDS's

OH and what is the FONT you are using there, is it a "free" font or? Cause I been looking for exactly that one and found some but yours looks spot on.

I'll check it out..
The font is free and called Amarillo USAF

I checked the NSS_Balao_O01.dds but all I see is grey scale parts of the boat.
I can't find the rusty parts.

OK do an experiment. Load that "O" file in Photoshop. Crank up the "Brightness and the "Contrast" until all that is white/gray is basically only white (over do it just to see what it does) save that as DDS bla bla. And see what effect it has. I have not tried this yet but I suspect that this is the stuff that makes the boat look sort a flecked metallic and its under the actual skin sort a shining through....anyway worth a try.

And THANKS! for the font man....I think I have seen this but only as a "buy" font.

EDIT: You might have to change the MODE to 16bit for you to work with the "Adjustments" in PS

Tried this.. and it helps. There is only one side effect. The complete boat starts to shine when the sun rays goes over the boat.

I tried to make the O file completely white. But this also happens whn I only convert the DDS to BMP and convert it back to DDS (no other changes).

Looks sorta a like a B29 submarine :p
Yea those "O" files are the "Lightmaps" explanation here if you are interested.

I'll read that when I get home from work.
Although the lightning sucks a bit.. the rest is so much nicer and smoother.
It really makes the game so much nicer to watch.

I hope I can solve the problem.
Maybe the problem lies in the way I transfer DDS to BMP ?

I don't know.. that sub looks awfully good to me.. Navy Clean...

which is fitting, like my Dad's USS Midway OE Division motto, which proudly adorned thier patch.. "Forse Funziona Ma Deve Brillare" ("Work It May, Shine It Must") Also seems somewhat fitting considering the release state of SH4 :ping: (This is the translation as it was explained to me, anyways)

Pretty cool !!

If you (or somebody else) wants to test the new skin with new lighting.
Please let me know. I would like to know what other people think of it.

Thats easy to fix.. leave the "O" file original.
And the original weathered skin will be visable thru the skin.

Solved the problem by using dxtbmp program..

At first saved to BMP. While doing this there was no alpha layer.
Using dxtbmp the alphalayer can also be seen and edited.

I will release the new Balao and Gato soon !

Just for my own reference...

Ok, sure all the SH4 skins have alpha channels, but all are plain white. I don't see how this would effect whats showing through.

And then what are the O files for?

Not completely thru.. All the "O" files are for lighting of the boat.
This file does have an (16 bit grey) alpha file..
