View Full Version : GWX: possible to stop celebrating each hit?

Hi, I'm new to SH3/gwx and this forum. I really like that the mod included some Boot-sounds but I wonder if it is possible to make the men shout "Wir haben ihn!" only after the torpedoed ship really goes down.

Another sound that like to get rid of is the hydro-guy asking "Wann ist das endlich vorbei?" - or if possible make him say this only after several hours in danger.

I wonder if there are some sound-mods available that change also the other rather boring original speakers. I only found a Boot-mod but that again was too much Das Boot for me. :-?

Rough (very rough!) translation:-

Wir haben ihn = We've got it! i.e. Sunk the target

Wann ist das endlich vorbei = How long have we got to endure this.

Other more knowledgable German speakers may disagree :D

Cheers

"Wann ist das endlich vorbei" sounds like "when is it finnaly over"
imo

Sry, sailors, of course I should have posted what I mean in english.

Indeed, I mean the "Yeah, boys, we got him! Pst, quiet!" ("Jawoll, Jungs, wir haben ihn! Pst, leise!") after each torpedo hit. It sounds great, but it gets annoying when the men are celebrating each hit this way - I'd like them to cheer only if a ship sinks.

The other sound is indeed the hydro-man saying "When will this be over?" ("Wann ist das endlich vorbei?"). I found him saying this nearly after every dropped charge or when an escort detects the boot - not a very confident guy obviously. Is there a way to get rid of him?

Update: I just heard through the english sound files. Probably I'll switch to them - the english speaker's much better than the german one that speaks as if he has no emotions at all. Still I'd rather like to have better german files. Thinking of it, one might recreate them. If there are more people out there that like to kick the boring original files we might discuss this.

Hi K Cook

Well, I certainly know where you are coming from on this. Would welcome a rework on the speech files with the officers clearly differentiated by separate voice actors rather than just pitch/tone modifications. Some of these are laughable - particularly " helium boy"

Get this guy responding from Sonar or Radio and you'll be rolling around the floor laughing or tearing your hair out from the total destruction of immersion factor.

However, suspect this is very unlikely although I would be happy to be proved wrong. Any volunteers??

Haven't heard either of the sounds you mention in GWX and couldn't find them on a very quick look through. They sound like Das Boot implants. Do you know where these speech files are located? If you do, you can simply replace them with something more to your liking such as the standard "Torpedotreffer" for the first one or a zero byte sound file if you want to get rid of them altogether.

English speech files??? Not for me :yep: Would totally kill immersion factor.... sooner have" helium boy".:rotfl:

Cheers

Actually I couldn't find them either. :-? The torpedo hit cheering indeed is from Das Boot, the hydro-guy sighing sound isn't, it seems to be spoken by the standard speaker. They both obviously came with GWX 1.03.

Replacing - once found - with a zero file would work for the hydro-man. But I like the hit cheering sound - I'd just like it to be played only when the torpedoed ship sinks. So I think in this case one has to modify like a trigger for playing this sound.

 Potentially a bad move kaleun :nope: Remember you need the German voices for the 'daddy' of all sounds, namely the "ALAAAAARM" diving sequence :arrgh!:

Indeed. :yep:

Although I miss the "Alle Mann voraus!" in it. ;)

The hydroman's speech is in SoM_S_Muffled Whispers.

The cheer files are in Ono_Cheers but they don't sound the same to me 'as what you wrote' ( shades of Ernie Wise)
There is another cheer file in SoM_K Cheer but this sounds exactly like the foul-mouthed police officer in Lula 3D and I know that isn't the one you mean.

Don't know whether modifying triggers is possible with sound files. It has been done with graphics. Maybe a GWX expert could advise.

Hope this helps.. at least you've only got 50% of the problems to solve!

Ah, thx a lot, cheapskate!

I did mean the ono_cheers, in my version those are the Boot files.

Would it just silence the hydro-man if I delete the SoM_S_Muffled Whispers or might that cause problems and zero files would be better?

Not really sure. Probably better to use a zero byte with name changed to file you are replacing - you definitely won't get any problems that way.

I use one that I got from Sailor Steve's Das boot mod. It replaced the "Ja Herr Kaleun" response which got on his nerves.

Problem there is that that one is the practice dive. It also has the "This isn't a pleasure cruise!" line.

I now just deleted them, seems to work fine as well. :arrgh!:
