Title says it all. I'm an American, so I'd just prefer to not have to type in my name every time I start a career.

Why? Are the Americans the only people that get annoyed by little things like that?

Look for your menu.txt in the Data\Menu folder.

Open the file in your usual editor and use the search function (Edit, Search...); that's easier than scrolling down the file.

Type John Doe and hit "Next".

There you are: Line 134. Replace J Doe by whatever you like.

Cheers.

I am an American, born to American citizens, and was born and raised in America. Thus, when playing a game simulating the American military, I want to use my American name. When I play a game simulating someone else'se military, I'll use a random name.

Sheesh.

John Doe is an American name. At least i think it is, but i figure you know its a "name" given to an unknown person. There's also Jane Doe. Same thing.

Personally, ive taken to naming my career game skipper, "Richard Kentrat". Sort of a bastardization of American and German names rolled into one. *shrug* Hey, we are a melting pot after all.

Yes, I work in EMS, so I'm familiar with those name designations. Too bad the devs didn't implement a random name generator for the player's name, like they did for the rest of the crew.

...and what, you can't manage to use your big squash to actually think up a fictitious AMERICAN name and then manage to summon up the strength to complete 10 seconds of typing on the keyboard??? :nope:

Wow, just wow!

Yes, it's such a shame I want to use my real name in a computer game. Shame on me.

With a name like John Doe, I feel as if I were already dead (seems to me the devs watched too many CSI episodes)...

I miss the SH3 way of creating a profile.

I (try to) play SH4 on a single computer with my 11-year old son and we are often overwriting each other saved games because of this single profile option.

I really don't understand why they did try to fix something that was definitely not broken in the first place...
