View Full Version : [REQ] Map Insert mod for Nav Screen

Seeing as I bought SH4 in Canada, I did not get any stuff with the purchase other than a brief manual and the game DVD. There was no fold-out map.

Is there a way to get a map insert that you can drag down to look at like in SH3 for the SH4 map? I have never even seen the map yet but from what I hear, it has aircraft ranges, shipping routes, etc.

Nope. Nothing on DVD. This is a Canadian purchase which had nothing other than manual and DVD. It sucks.

That is the map i'm looking for. It has the shipping routes, aircraft range, etc.

But I would like a copy that I can look at on my cpu or that I can drag down like we can the SH3 one in the navigation screen. It was a tab in the top left that allowed you to pull it down and look at the grids, etc.

Thanks anyways HeinzS, but that is not the map... That is the same map as the navigation screen.

When someone buys the game they get a nifty fold-out map. Large. With shipping routes, aircraft ranges, dates, all kinds of crap. Because I bought the game in Canada, I did not get this map.

Someone took a photo of the map and modded it so that it sits on the deak in the control room. However, this is not what I was looking for. Yes, that is the the map, but I would like to see it as draggable and viewable in the navigation screen like the Silent Hunter 3 included map was modded.

Or at least get a viewable copy from UBI or something that I can take a look at.

Its me back again. Been trying all evening to get this to you, but my system just will not have it. Ideas...(1) I can get it reduced, its 21"x17", and try after Easter? 920 I can post this one to the nearest and perhaps you will have better luck getting it on your system.....Incidentally there is no "drop down" as in SH3.....Sorry chaps....Dusty.

Been looking in to this or rather putting any "movable" map in to the "main" map screen...OK managed to actually get the "movable" map to show up...that's a start...but I can't for the love of God! grab it and move it around.

This is what the code in the "menu_1024_768" .ini looks like so far.

WOW! this is stupid, been at this now for at least 2H... I guess i am stupid. There is something that don't work like in SH3 with this one and i can't figure it :damn:

I am sure its a super simple solution like always, but at the mo i can't see it...anybody...a clue, a trick or 2...please.

Comparing to what they did for SH3 Navimod, do you want to upload what you have so we can all take a look? More people working on it the better.

I do not have the NewMap.tga though, since my Graphics skills are below par.

But I can try to figure out what the differences are and maybe get a work around.:)

I need to know exactly what you did to reproduce the problem, it may not be possible to do it just like SH3 but that old command left over (tool helper icon -RetroTool Mod) from SH4 can be tied to pop back and forth between two graphics, just replace the one tga with this new overlay (position etc) and with one click you can flip it on and off. I guess. Upload what you got and I can give it a try, or you can use that idea.

Juat what I thought, notice it is stuck right top by the Tool Helper Texture? That I think is th problem.

Question: Are you going to make this an alpha transparent overlay with the trade convoy routes? That MapI.dss looks rather poor...unless you are using that for a placeholder.

Next I am going to see if I can get it to flip back and forth using the original spot for the tool helper (just renaming the TGA).

No that just a test map. I really appreciate anybodies input on this one as IT IS GETTING ON MY NEVERS!!! been at it for at least 5-6h today...what a waist. I hope you can look at it with fresh eyes man. If you could scan the "Game Map" please do, other wise I will do it but 1st thing on Tuesday back at work. I only wish we could find what the H..l is making this one so hard :p

EDIT: tried with the tool helper but it just breaks up the .dds in to many pieces. But again, i been at it for to long and can't see fuke all.

EDIT EDIT: OK going to bed here, if you crack it I will even make those trade routes in Photoshop in the morn...you better believe it ;)

It seems you did everything correct. :o

I am now trying to add other things such as Zone lines and some other ideas.

I been working on this exclusive. With the Retro tool mod, there is a slider, 'verticle=30' type command for those tga tools.

Its one of the few items that you can drag around by just pointing the mouse and click and move. You got the Clock and the radio, Gramophone as well, but I can't find Drag=true in any of those

It cannot be done via the menu_1024_768.ini file.

I Tried a few things that I think may have worked and they didn't. I tried to make the map a slide down map, but just like the problem with the retro navmap mod, it leaves a dead space where the map will slide down to (i.e. even with the map "hidden", the space it would slide down to would not allow the underneath navigation map to be dragged, nor would any of the tools work in that area). I think it is due to the way they have implemented things in SH4, and it has basically broken many of the things that worked so well in SH3.

I tried looking to see if there is a way to make something draggable like you can drag the chronometer or the captain's log clipboard, but didn't see anything how to do so. It seems to me that they have made the menu_1024_768.ini file a strict layout file, and any type of functioning is hard coded. (You can specify how things will look, but most of the interactions/functionality is hard coded...or hidden somewhere else in some other file).

Cheers man! Thanks for verifying and testing this. It was really driving mad. Although there is always a way...I wonder if its possible to spot using a debugger like OLLYDBG or something. Never give up, never surrender :p

Perhaps it can be done by making a toggle to open up the map instead of having it dragged. Like pressing one of the buttons on the bottom UI, it will open up the map and close it when clicked, if you get my meaning. Or a defined key press.

From what I can tell you can change the way the bottom UI looks (via the menu_1024_768.ini file), but you cannot change/create a new button to do something that isn't already hard coded. Maybe there is a way to do that elsewhere, but I am not familiar with how to do it. I may give a look to the other files to see what is up, but I doubt it would be an easy thing to do (if at all possible).

I have been looking my self blind on this "Menu" file for a couple of days now and I wonder if one must set up a "menu" group that has the main" Navmap" as a parent...looking at the watch e.g. it has Name=Page Clock
