Here's an idea that I don't think I've seen yet. Has anyone, can anyone, mimic the actual weather conditions based on date?

Whilst the mission editor now offers greater flexibility in controlling what sort of conditions you will face during single missions i don't think this is possible during the campaign due to the way it works. Although I'm sure someone will create a weather program like they did for SH3 it will probably still be tied to a randomness within different seasons rather than anything actually historical.

The real question is.... Was the actual weather document/recorded during WW2?

Something needs to be done with the weather and waves in SH4. I have clear skies and massive waves coming over the deck... :hmm:

That sounds pretty realistic to me - strong winds don't always mean heavy cloud and rain.

I saw it myself: the bow (of my destroyer) dips under the wave; the forward turret hits the water; the spray drenches us off-duty sailors standing on the signal bridge. As the bow comes up the ship shakes like a dog trying to dry itself off, then we do it again. No storm, no clouds, just a long rolling very heavy swell.

Waves are made by water being pushed by the wind, combined with underwater current action. With a lot of open sea you get a lot of swells; usually not that bad, but it's never calm.

:yep: They have modelled historic events/actions into the campaign. There must/should be a way to set the historic weather for that area.

Since weather is crucial to any naval activity--this should have been an automatic item thought of by the dev team.

One can always review war patrol reports (available online) for weather conditions. I have about two dozen of them, but I'm not about to review them for actual weather conditions.
I'll have to d/l a mod for weather reporting, I've yet to have calm seas since I've bought the game.

Not without a substantial rewrite of the weather engine and possibly the campaign one as well, I'm afraid.

I'm happy enough with random weather I think. It adds an unknown factor to the game that gives as extra challenge.
