I have a request for the modders out there. Been playing the S-boat for several days now and have noticed several things-

1. No random mechanical breakdowns.

2. No AA ability- no .50's or 20mm mounted in '41 or early '42 (haven't progressed beyond those dates yet).

3. My boat wallows like a toy sub in a swimming pool even in light seas (seriously, at least 45 degrees to port and starboard).

4. Patrol zone to the South China Sea (new orders after radio msg to COMSUBPAC). Review SH4 patrol zones and correct them per historical patrols.

Tried Mini-Tweak but had no luck modifying .sim files ("Path not recognized").

Any other suggestions welcome!

Yours, Mike

You need to point Mini Tweaker towards your SH4 directory. It was designed for SH3. It's default setting is the SH3 directory. U-Bones made a good post in this thread:

Which S-boat are you using? I've tried both the S-boats and they both seem as stable as a rock - much more stable than my old Type VIIC in heavy seas. If anything I'd say they need to be less stable, and I think they need to ride lower in the water.

4. Patrol zone to the South China Sea (new orders after radio msg to COMSUBPAC). Review SH4 patrol zones and correct them per historical patrols.

This is fairly easy and it's on my list of things to do for RFB. However, the South China Sea destination is the default that the game goes to when it can't find a proper destination. There could be some bug in the flotilla file - either way I'll be checking into all that stuff as I perfect RFB.

1. No random mechanical breakdowns.

this would certainly be nice, though given the game's current state of damage control/repair i'm rather glad it's not implemented... ;)

2. No AA ability- no .50's or 20mm mounted in '41 or early '42 (haven't progressed beyond those dates yet).

did the s-class boats actually have these? i know google lists them for the s-class armaments, but other online sources (like valor at sea) seem to indicate (by omission) that they didn't... additionally i looked at some photodocumentary evidence for the real-life counter part of the s-class i'm riding around in now (s-32, see here ==> http://www.navsource.org/archives/08/08137.htm) and none of the photos seem to reveal the presence of .5 cals.
it'd sure be nice to figure out what the actual scoop is.

additionally, i'd tried to attach a .5 cal to my s-boat (just to see if i could) by mucking around with the upc files but no joy...
has anyone figured out how to adjust/add/remove armaments? and if so, what's the procedure?

cheers
hc

Captain William Ruhe in "War in the Boats" mentions gun drills after leaving Brisbane in S-37 with two .50 cals (page 8). He states they were set up on the cigarette deck aft of the bridge.

Also request some more items for a "Real S-boat Mod"-

1. Rig for red (currently I get a "rig for blue").

2. Dive time is 30 seconds. I believe the dive time was 60 seconds, will check my references.

3. Increase surface speed to 14.5 knots, submerged to 9. Changed the .cfg files with no results.

For the sub speeds you need to use the mini-tweaker and grab NVDrifters sub tweak files: http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=109854

According to George O. Jones (S-38), an S-boat riding the vents could be dived in 30 seconds.

I'll try Mini-Tweaker when I have the time (not much lately).

If anyone has research requests for this mod let me know, I have some sources available on S-boats.
