I completely re-worked the torpedo and deck gun cheats from the v1.2 patch.

They aren't compatible with JGSME because I'd have to break apart the different versions. However, you just copy 'n paste the files into the folder -- I've included the original v1.2 files to make things easy to restore.

1. The deckgun cheat is self-explainatory. It only applies to the AP/HE shells on the 4/50" deck gun -- both shell types are identical. The folder name indicates the blast radius of the shells. 100m blast radius will take out single boats, the kilometer blasts will take out convoys. Make sure you're out of the blast radius.

2. The torpedo cheats are a little different because there are two types, and the second type is dependent on the first. There would be no point in breaking them apart because the second mod will be utterly useless with stock torpedoes.

2a. The first set of 3 folders indicates the blast radius of the warhead. 100m will destroy single boats, the 1/2/3km blasts can destroy multiple. Copy one of these files into the sh4/data/library folder, as indicated. All torpedo types have been altered in these cheats, so they are all packing the same warhead strength.

2b. The second set of 3 folders combine varying magnetic detonator sensitivities (20m, 200m, 500m) and altered arming runs (150m, 1100m, 3100m), as well as increased running range (10,000 meters on both slow and fast setting) -- but only on the Mark-14 torpedo. This second "magdet" cheat only applies to the Mark 14 torpedo.

If you are using the 1/2/3km blast radius, is is *HIGHLY* advised that you also use the 1100m or 3100m arming run cheats -- a premature detonation will end your game. Remember that this second torpedo cheat will only work if combined with an appropriate one from the first set (don't combine the 100m blast radius with the 500m magdet), and that it only applies to the Mark-14. So a Mark-27 at 12kts with a 3000km warhead can end your career with a premature detonation.

To illustrate how this works, here's a video of the 200m magnetic-detonator / 1000m blast-radius torpedo (http://tron-chaser.net/data/silenthunter4/cheats_v12/sh4_torpedo_cheat_200m_magdet.avi).

As shown in the video, the torpedo detonates when it closes to within 200m of the target. Could have missed astern or forward and it would have gone off the same.

Here's a picture to show what is possible with the large blast-radius cheats. I forget the tonnage involved, but there were two +30kt ships in there -- probably topped 150,000 tons for the whole load.

...what's the point? The game's aim is to be fun, but be fun in a realistic way...ships even now adays need alot of stuff before they go under...Heck! Even during the atomic tests the BBs , DDs and CVs needed a couple days before they went under!

Good effort:up:...but I prefer stock 1.1 SH4...:rock:

1000 power? Bah, I jacked mine up past 3500 just to see what it would do.

Sank a Kongo BB in it's own port (Kobe is awesome for this, it's just west of Osaka. It's not even guarded and I found 2 BBs, 2 CVs, a CL and a minisub all parked there) with two shots. It went up like the HMS Hood.

Now I just need to get my gramaphone to play the Imperial Theme March when I start my attacks ...

That's pretty much what I figure. Plus, no one else really has any "cheats" out for it. When someone goes looking, this is the thread they'll find -- probably the only thread.

The torpedo power isn't as important as its effective radius. You could leave the stock 200 and crank the radius up to 500 meters. I actually tried out a 1km nuke (I think I put 1000 meters, and something wicked like 5 million power) but got caught in the blast at 1200 meters, so I figured that wasn't a very good "cheat" to make. When I did the torpedo cheats for SH3, the game would actually crash out on me with a specific Nvidia driver version -- too many explosions for the game or card to handle. So, 1000 power is more than enough given the large burst area, and people still have the option of crippling a ship even if it is somewhat difficult to do.

Like has been said a bagillion times already, it's good for people to be able to play their game how they want it to be played. Although it may not suit your style of play, this is how he likes to play. Accepting and respecting others' ideas and opinions should be done more often. ;)

I also really liked the idea of raising the two numbers higher that determine torpedo damage power. So i made my own mod that's much more modest.

Nothing special. Just 2x damage power. I believe yours is on average something like 4x to 6x higher than the original game. With 1000 hit points on the best torpedoes. The highest i've set a torpedo is 360. That's the 6th torpedo in the list of them using the tweaker file.

I'm currently testing my 2x mod and will let you know the results. What i'm most interested in is achieving a balance where my torpedoes do enough damage to match my expectations of reality. I realize my expectations are pure conjecture based on a guess.

I've seen films of WWII era torpedo hits and they always looked quite powerful. It would be interesting to get the actual specs on damage based on TNT output etc.

Hypocrytes - it is ok to reprogram the game so that it suites your needs and is more fun for you to play and you call it modding, but if other people do it to suit their needs and their kind of fun then you go around and call it cheating. two questions for you lot though:
1. why are you reading this thread if you consider it cheating?
2. what business is it of yours how I play my game which I payed for with my hard earned cash?

All you need to do is uncheck the "No Event Camera" option in your realism settings and you'll be good to go! :up:

heres to everyone wanting torp speeds and all. therte is a program called sh3 mini tweeker it is made for sh3 but there have been files made for sh4 by various people. The main site to get the stuff is http://hosted.filefront.com/aragorn155/1928845 most of them from my knowladge are from nvdrifter. its his filefront site. So good hunting and have fun

The torpedo.zon file goes into the /data/library folder.

Take a look at the movie (divx, mp3). If you hit a boat anywhere near center, it's over. If for some reason you just want to cripple it, you'll have to hit the absolute extreme bow -- stern shots don't work. I believe the new numbers are 20 meters blast radius, 1000 power (static); up from 7 meters and 200 (variable). Hasn't been extensively tested or anything, so if you nail a battleship in the ammo dump or something, the game may crash out from all the explosions.

I'll see about the deck guns later this week.

Here's the deckgun:
Silent Hunter 4 deckgun cheat (http://tron-chaser.net/data/silenthunter4/sh4_deckgun_cheat.zip)
Silent Hunter 4 deckgun cheat movie -- 3000 meter range (http://tron-chaser.net/data/silenthunter4/sh4_deckgun_cheat_3000m.avi)

Inside that zip archive, there are four different deckgun versions. All are the 4/50" cannon "HE" shells -- AP shells were left stock.
-The "20m" has an explosive radius of 20 meters, and a power of 1000. Same as the torpedo cheat, meant for a single boat.
-The "1000, 2000, 3000m" cheats have the respective ranges of each with a power of 5 million. Intended to take out convoys or entire ports.

If you notice in the movie (Divx, mp3), the blast wave takes time to propagate, which could possibly mean that you might be inside the blast radius in the 30 seconds the blast takes to move. Be aware of your closure speed during this lag period -- you will be informed if you are inside the blast zone.




Don't forget to make a quick backup of your original files!

Hehehee.... i like the idea. Used to do all types of Shennanigans back in sh2.... ever see screenies of a type21 at 10000 feet, shooting at airplanes?

every once in a while, i get bored with the same old, patrol, see nothing, sink one straggler, etc. So i nuke something. or everything. floats my boat

Okay, guys. I'm just trying my first mod here, but I saw y'all foundering here and thought I'd post a little teaser. This Mark 14 torpedo packs a punch: minimum effect-5000, maximum effect-50000, min radius 30, max radius 90, thanks to skwas' S3D Silent Editor. No Mini-Tweaker was harmed during the production of this, my first crude but effective SH4 mod.

I love to play realistically, but I'll admit the thrill of seeing a Kongo reduced to a skeleton in one torpedo hit just about killed me!:rock:

This thing works with patch 1.3 and JSGME. More to come as I mod other torpedoes and deck gun. I'll keep em all separate so you can load some realistic and some (ahem) enhanced ammo on your sub at the same time.:arrgh!:

Short answer yes. With S3D Silent Editor now anyone can make their own nuke homing shoulder launched laser torpedoes.:arrgh!: I think the file to edit would be your US_Torpedoes.sim file that has torpedo speed in it at least. I'll have to look into this more later to get you more info.

Was pretty funny- last year I did some tweaks.

I made my deck gun a 16" Minigun. Harbringer of death, that was. Gave it rail gunesque muzzle velocity (flat out to like 25000 or something crazy), a reload time that I calculated was identical to a minigun.

Then I upgraded my 40mm's to CIWS standards- CRAZY RPM's, and MASSIVE loads of ammo. Hung out on the surface and watched the fun. Fighter, bomber- didnt' matter. BRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRAAAAAAAAAAP! and they were gone. Just NUTS.

But, I couldn't be happy with just this newfound firepower...oh no. I had to make my boat capable of 75kts at flank speed on the surface.

So I stormed across the Pacific, wreaking havoc.

Kind of fun, but now I'm back to the realistic stats.

Probably because a few of ous like to play around with these things....Right now ihave a U-boat in SH3 doing 200 knots. :rotfl:

What files do I need to change values in to change the torpedoe and gun ROF and damage values?

I've been playing around with various values and files using Silent 3ditor but haven't been able to get anything to work.

photon torps. I got by with just main phasers. :rotfl2:

good lord this is a thread from 2007 !!!

first make sure you have v1.5 of the game or buy the ad-on for it, then you need to use more updated mods and not anything that is this old or it will have issues with the game

try looking over my mod list and choose the deck gun and torpedo upgrades that fit your playing style best
