Hello Captains!

Everybody is modding, so I started as well :-)

This SOUND mod gives the sub a very nice stealthy atmosphere. Hope you like it.

Kosh "Stealthy Sub" Project
__________________

This is my personal project aimed at bringing a more realistic submarine audio experience.

Diesel-electric submarines are some of the most stealthy vessels to traverse the seas and the game atmosphere should reflect this fact.

I have used some sound samples from the Ultimate Sound Pack and from sources I am unable to identify, as well as created or altered some by myself.
Many of the sound samples used in these mods have been around so many times that I simply don't know where they came from.

Mod features:
__________________

1.00

Much different and quieter interior

Real life American WWII submarine periscope up/down sound

Totally NEW and HISTORIC Torpedo sound (exterior and hydrophone). A very accurate reproduction of a German Electric Torpedo. I chose to go with the electric instead of steam, because a steam torpedo sounds just like a small single engine airplane

Realistic propeller sounds (mixed to provide an audio effect of 2 propellers)

Much more subtle and different electric engine noise

Exterior Diesel Sound from GWX

New underwater diesel sound (re-processed external diesel sample)

Reduced Periscope chronometer click

Many other ambient sound levels have been balanced out.

A few sound effects may be from the Ultimate Sound Mod.

NOTE:
____
I turned off some ingame music. Namely, the Tension, High Tension, and Battle music.
UBI intro logo is also disabled. If you get a crash because of 0kb logo movie, just delete it from the mod and it should work like before.

Great job, Kosh. The canned tension music was getting to be too much.

I know, lol

Having all this loud jerky music blaring when you are trying to sneak up on your enemies is just too much.

The higlight of this mod though, is the proper sound balance inside and outside of the submarine. It actually feels like the sub is quiet the way it should be.

I am not one that usually cares about the sounds. I always play with music turned off. I use cheap sound cards and cheaper speakers. In SH3 I cherry picked a few wav files and basically had my own -very- small sound mod that suited my taste.

I installed and played with this tonight and I must say I am very impressed. It all just feels so right, and it cleaned up a little TC sound stutter for me as well.

Excellent job.

Nice mod! The periscope sounds great, nice to know it is real. When you raise/lower it fully though at the end the last noise you hear doesnt seem to fit, like it is grinding against the top of the housing or somthing odd.

All the sounds in the periscope are real. At the end there were actually 2 clunks but the space between them was too long so I cut the second clunk out.

The first sound was a clunk, and the second a sort of click/pop. The periscope now has a nice quiet sliding sound, and that's the way it really is too, lol

I will be continuing my work on this project, and will be releasing future updates as more and better sounds are added.

Thanks guys.

I'm enthusiastic about your mod, and thank you for your generousity.
I had just installed Beery's mod and was just about to install yours via JGSME (a thousand blessings on him [maybe if we say enough nice things about him, he'll relent and do an SH4 Commander]). At any rate, I got a message that Beery's mod had already modified a file that your mod would modify.
I'll post a note on the release thread for Beery's mod.
Guess it'll take a while for the dust to settle with SH IV. Still, I am very thankful for the (as yet) uncoordinated efforts of you folks.

This mod is exclusively a sound mod. It does not affect gameplay mods at all.

If some larger packs changed some sounds, you can still install this one on top. It will overwrite only certain sound samples that overlap between the mods.

The only thing to remember is to uninstall the mods in the exact opposite order of installation, otherwise a problem of mixing up backed up data can occur.

Other than that I turned off the UBI logo movie, and some of the battle music. I left the nice relaxed in game music on.
