View Full Version : Map With GWX Expansion

I usually have no framerate problems running GWX. I get framerates from 45-150 depending on where I am and the traffic load. Usually just zips right along.

Yet ....in the Nav map, when I zoom in to lay course plot lines and figure intercept strategies, and other similar operations, my system drops to a crawling 2-6 fps.... ...and thats just with my boat and a single target. 1x TC speed. I can only speculate what will happen when I encounter a huge convoy.

Not so much a problem as a frustration. The mouse pointer crawls across the screen. Sometimes it takes multiple clicks to select something new before the selection registers. Not fun when you need to make some snap decisions in a hurry

So...I guess my question is...is there anything that can be done about this? Is it possible to go back to the original map and tools?...or would doing that even help? BTW..I would loath having to give up that German map...it is fantastic for immersion.

Or is it time to stop whining and just adapt and live with it...:-?...which is easier said than done unfortunatly.

Could it be related to this thread? http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=109898

The problem seems to occur on the highest zoom level.

Nice find Dan
May be the reason why I never have it
lol

:hmm: ....well....I do tend to draw some long reference lines....maybe that is it.

Next time I can have a session I'll check it out.

If this is the problem then no sweat. Problem solved.

Just had a similar thing (GWX1.02 still), during a carefully planned attack on a lone Mergant.
Drew a rough course of the target, approached, zoomed in on the map again, and drew a 2nd (more accurate) course...the old one was still partially on the map. Serious stutter.
I removed the old course, and all was fine again. :)

That was it. I removed all markers and reference lines and the problem cleared up.

I would never have thought in a million years that a few lines would do that to the frame rates...:nope: ..and I still have to wonder why it was that I have never noticed this before, considering , I have played as much as I have. :-? ...I was certain something new in 1.03 was doing it....shows how much I know...:hmm:

In fact with all lines removed ,the frame rate when zoomed all the way in is now 200-220....:yep:...imagine...2-6 to 200+ with only the deletion of a few lines.

Thanks (and thats an understatement) for the link to the solution! Much appreciated.

What would happen if the final level of zoom was removed? Would this solve the issue, or will it have an effect on the accuracy of map plotting?

Maybe that would give issues, when navigating near (friendly) anti-subnets and -mines, and in harbors.
