UPDATED april 7, 2007:
I fixed a yet small nuance of color presence on tails.
================================================== ================
GWX-No ContactTails plus Colored WarShips hydrophone contacts.
GWX-Tails grey plus Colored Warships hydrophone contacts.

http://rapidshare.com/files/24948758/WS_colored_contacts_w_wo_black_tails.7z.html
(itīs in truth only the Contline.tga file in JSGME format)
You can install middle patrol!
================================================== ====
The version without tail can be used with any mod even the old Assited Plotting mod.
The new, that hold the tails, can be used with any mod that use grey contacts.
The new version with tails also fix the broken hydrophones lines! :)
See the last pic from this new option (tails in grey and WS hydrop. contact colored)
Enjoy!
================================================== ====

Original first post:
Here iīm again with one more mod made for my own game that probably could be useful for someone more.

This is an old idea alreaady implemented since the Assisted Plotting Mod from almost 2 years ago...but with some fundamental differences...

The old Assisted Plotting Mod makes a complete redone on the way Sh3 display contacts on the NAv map. For some, like me, itīs a bit to much hardcore. I like a little more info on map but not so much as in the stock /GWX ones.

The main problem for me is that tails that always are so precise and you never needs to really find a radio contact from hundreds of km away: is just a matter to draw a line following that annoying tails..

Another problem is that GWX (and others mods) have all lines grey. Even the strategic escort war ships contacts (on hydrophone) in a middle of the convoy.

The grey contacts are great, I like them...but that escort ships...even in RL they marked them with some special code on the papers during convoys attacks. Itīs useful and necessary.

But the problem is that SH3 uses the same Contline.tga for all this: the tails and the contact lines on hydrophones. So what you make to adjust one could mess with the other.

But now I donīt have more the tails and the warships are in red on my hydrophones! And all others lines and icons coninues grey!!

Miracle? No...after read all the threads on the matter and some hours in a deep observation on how all this works...bingo! the solution arrived!
First of all all the mods that mess with the Contline and tails ends with a no more continue line on the hydrophone contacts. This is a direct side effect when you delete the tails...so no dice here. But the line is far better than the one in RUB/AssistedPlotting mod. Another small side effect is that your sub also donīt have directional tails on the map any more. If you can live with these two....

Take a look on the pictures and judge it by yourself.
The major addition is to have a more challenge game and a better track of the escort ships on the hydrophones! A huge addition on my opinion. The small side effects are quickly absorved and you will not noticed them after the first patrol with this mod.

Good Hunting!
Rubini.

(Credits to original Assisted Plotting mod author, ChurchSubSim and Poor Sailor for they work also on this matter, Kpt. Lehmann for the grey contacts)

Very interesting mod Rubini! I will must try it!
@jcwolf
This mod is compatible with GWX v.1.03!

Yes, itīs compatibe with ANY mod. Itīs only the ContLine.tga file that continues "colored" and only have his first part invisible. Just this.

Minutes ago I was replying an Email from JSCones about the possibility of have tails in grey and colored warships on hydrophones contact. I was replying to him that as they use the same files this wasnīt possible...but an idea comes to my mind and yes, itīs really possible. I will post in minutes!

Tails in grey and colored warships! What a good simple solution that nobody (including me) had found until now. Iīm crazy!:arrgh!:

In minutes...

First post updated with the new version with grey tails and colored Warships hydrophone contacts.
Hopes that you enjoy them!

A curious thing:
Iīm a coloblind guy and I started this mod trying to find a solution for myself trying to modify the red color of the warships because I canīt see them even in stock or in this new mod!
I needed to ask to my children and my wife all the time to have sure that iīm making the correct adjusts.
So, in the end I achieve to put back the red colors on hydrophone contact but not "fix" the problem for me.
I hope that you like the mod. I canīt enjoy it because I canīt see the differences between the grey and the red in this case.
I should like then to credits also to them, my wife and children, for their colaboration and patience!;)

Thanks mates!

Hmmm

Can you not replace the red lines with a broken line for yourself mate ?
Be easier to spot the difference then

Thanks for the input BBW...but if I make this for warships then also the mechants will have the same. Until now this have no solution because itīs that old hardcoded problem with the color of the contacts in general... But I have one or two more bullets in the gun yet....who knows...:hmm:

Yeah realized that after posting

You can always change it for a colour you do recognise
Never knew you were colour blind mate
:hmm:

LOL
Itīs crazy. That last pic for an example. I even donīt know if itīs the right one because canīt see the colour differences between the lines!:D
Do you saw a red contact there? (just to confirm if I use the right one)

Now about make the line have another colour, the problem is the same. If you made it for WS then the merchs will have the same. I need to find another way.:hmm:

Yes it is red mate
:rotfl:

So I guess the all grey contacts is ok for you if you cant tell the difference anyway

No...I can see the difference of the others contacts like blue or green. However I also use the grey contact because I like the more challenge option that it gives to us. But this Sh3 red line is really impossible for me!:D

Thanks for this mod this is exactly what I have been looking for. I like all the lines grey and no tails. Makes the game much more challenging.

Excellent work again, Rubini. This mod is great just the way it is with the red lines for warship contacts and no tails anywhere. Thanks!

Thanks for the words mate! But is really funny this situation. Itīs not the first time that i made mods that mess with colours and in the end I canīt enjoy it completely.

But Iīm very happy that this could be good for a lot of ppl!

Rubini, I have used your original visual hydrophone mod succesfully for a short while until the updated Alert Crew fix came out. I installed it along with your recent original no tails and red warship lines (with broken lines).

Amount of hydrophone contacts seemed to decrease, then finally I got one at zero bearing, 22 km away. As we closed the distance the grey line diappeared even though I could manually detect the contact getting closer. At approximately 6.8 km the grey line came back.

I took out the no tails and red line mod, then rebooted game. The next hydrophone contact seemed to behave normally (did not drop out).

Is there anything in this no tails mod which would make this happen? I plan to try out your recently updated grey tails with red lines mod. I hope the lines are solid and the contact lines do not drop out.

Thanks again for your great mods!

vonZelda,

First of all, after I and others played a lot of patrols with the Stay Alert crew mod I can say that the problem that you are speaking/heaving with the hydrophones contact isn't present on our installation. In my game the hydrophones works absolutelly fine, without any problem
I will suggest to you check your installation, SH3cmdr issues and so on. Something is wrong on your installation probably.

The new Contline.tga (this mod) is also working fine, without problems.;)

I am using your "grey tails/coloured hydrophone contacts" mod, and installed via JSGME in mid-patrol.
The tails unfortunately are still coloured - red for enemy, green for neutrals. The colours are darker than before, but still discernible.
Should I have done the mod installation in between patrols?
I had modded my GWX so that I could differentiate between merchnat & warship contacts whilst submerged. Perhaps I should have swapped the original files back before installing your mod?

Any advise appreciated. Thanks.

Well, some problem with the installation of any mod is always possible. But as I am a colorblind guy perhaps I donīt noticed some small nuance. But is yet possible to have the tails totally grey/black.

Please, goes to your data/menu/gui and check the Contline.tga file verifying if it is really the one that is in the mod. If you have sure that is the one on the mod and you continue to observe any nuance of color on the tails let me know that I will update the mod with a completely grey/black tail.

Thanks for your help. Iīm waiting your report!;)

Well, anyway, here a totally black/grey tails with colored WS contact.
I need that someone test it (and report back) because I canīt really check it (colorblind).:88)
If itīs woking well, I will update the first post/mod;)

Just replace your Contline.tga on the data/menu/gui folder. Can be made in middle patrol.

What's different between this mod and the GWX-Colored Contacts mod?

What's different between this mod and the GWX-Colored Contacts mod?

The GWX-colred Contact mod is the same as in stock game. All contacts are color coded.

This new mod is to be used with Grey contact mod which are into GWX. You will continue to have all contacts in grey but only the hydrophones warships contacts will appears in red.

The other option (without tails) can be used with any mod, even the totally colored ones.;)
