Green "Position Keeper" and "Good Lock" Buttons Mod for SH 4
made by
Captain Cox

Improved and Tweaked
made by
jimimadrid

Inspired by "jimimadrid" I felt that these buttons would be better recognized as "ON" in green, simple and plain.

IMPROVED AND UPDATED VERSION!!!
Made by jimimadrid

http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a138/CaptainCox/greenlockkl7.jpg

1. moving the periscope (FWD torpedo selected) - lamp red off - button off
2. moving on a ship (FWD torpedo selected) - lamp yellow on - button off
3. locking on a ship (FWD torpedo selected) - lamp green on - button on
4 locking on a ship (AFT torpedo selected- wrong torpedo side) - lamp green off - button on

so you get very easy an information- if you are able to hit the ship, and if you have locked with the right torpedo, (FWD or AFT)

i also will use the little led-light above the lamps.
Torpedo 1 is loading, and therefore you can not select him, no green LED on.
(this is only a little cosmetic change, because loading torpedos lights are flashing)

Excellent:up:

Ummm, what were they before? I never saw this button light up no matter what sort of solution I had.

Ditto, even with a solution that works perfectly and I fire a salvo of 3 torps that hit exactly where I want them to this button never changes for me. What's this thing for and when does it work or how do you make it work?

When setting up a solution to a new target, I turn the Position Keeper off - lock sight on new target, click it to turn it back on. Just to make sure the position keeper is tracking the proper target that I will be inputting data for.

Yep that's a bit of a weird one, you have to unclick it and click it again after selecting a new target...its like you update it sort of.

FYI, clicking on the "good lock" button is the same as "L" key and locks your optic to the target. I haven't made any sense out of it lighting up.

CaptainCox
03-31-07, 04:44 PM
Well with this mod you basically know if it locked or not (green) instead of the same "red" but with a slightly offsetted "R"

tedhealy
03-31-07, 04:46 PM
Ok, I guess I didn't know any of that  I was wondering if there was a way to lock without trying to hit the L key in the dark, and now I know.

Sometimes it's the simple things that make all the difference. Great idea, well done.

I agree with Von Hinten, nicely said.

@ Donat,
i have made some little changes to CaptainCox idea.

@CaptainCox, this is not an intend to grab out your idea. i have only checked the status of the lamps and find out that there are some more possibilities to work with the lampcolors.

http://img296.imageshack.us/img296/707/greenlockkl7.jpg

1. moving the periscope (FWD torpedo selected) - lamp red off - button off
2. moving on a ship (FWD torpedo selected) - lamp yellow on - button off

If CaptainCox give me his OK to share it, i will put the link here.

can this one be made compatible with patch 1.2 please

CaptainCox
04-19-07, 06:53 AM
Hmmm, I thought this worked for 1.2...was playing yesterday and did not see any problem...but I was not looking for a problem so I might not have noticed it. If there is a prob I will look at it tonight after work.

I compared the files that where new and this mod will override one of the updated files that came with the patch so it needs an update.

Thanks

Hi Captain Cox,

Mine doesn't work with 1.2 either. Just the ugly yellow buttons. Installed with JSGME.

CaptainCox

Cheers will fix it in about 3-4 h as I am still at work. Will do 1st thing when home.

Captain Cox,

I am sorry. Your green lock and keeper light IS working. I was thinking of the green HUD lamps. Your previous post jarred me from my Bernard moment!

A Skipper in mental distress..........LOL

It might work but it will overwrite a newer file that came with the patch 1.2 so it still needs to be updated.

CaptainCox
04-19-07, 12:21 PM
I think not as this is only a graphic overlay. There is no "Menu.ini" file or any other "data" modified with this MOD.

CyberOps
04-19-07, 12:27 PM
it wil lreplace this Data\Menu\Gui\Layout\PeriscopeLeftPanel.dds

which is updated in the patch

see the files that are replaced

I'll give it a shot with patch 1.4 and see if it is compatable.

edit: Installed with JSGME with no problems. Works as intended with no issues noted.

Does anybody still have a copy of this mod that they can make available. I had it installed before I upgraded to Windows 7 and thought that I had the file backed up- but apparently not. I would appreciate it if anybody who has it could allow me to get a copy please.

Thanks for any help in locating this mod. The original download links are both dead.

This is for the 1.4 version. It may not work with 1.5 as it changes the directory structure in some places in the game.

Facinated by this, the links for the download are not working for me, but.
Is it still around? I would like to get a hold of it.
I did open the images of the panels and blobbed numbers on them.
Then spent most of yesterday trying different combinations of periscope movement, tubes empty/ready etc.
And for the life of me could not work it out at all.
The big red button fires the torpedo's....got that.
If it is still around, would like a copy. Thanks

Have I missed something in the description?

Is there a connection here between the two sets of controls?
When you have a good lock on a target, does the lamp on the position keeper
turn on to indicate it's a good time to turn it on?
