Hi, Seems the GWX 1.03 doesn't have the hollywood mod, I assume this is contained in the zones.cfg, could someone varify this and is there a fix?:)

Please don't quote me on this as I am not 100% sure, but if you want to see big fires and explosions you can use the GWX Special Effects Mod http://files.filefront.com/GWX___Special_Effects_V10rar/;6553451;/fileinfo.html

When I edited the GWX v.1.03 Zones.cfg file I found this:

" GWX Damage Model version 1.9
February 2007, by VonHelsching

Plus GWX Airpower, "Burning Ships fix" and numerous ship, cargo and
airplane fixes by VonHelsching

Plus GW1.1a U-boat Damage Model based on "Holywood" mods by gouldjg

Plus GW1.1a "Hollywood" effects "
And from that I think that GWX v.1.03 contains Hollywood effects.

Interesting, but I wonder if I could install this. I'm in the middle of patrol.:hmm:

I have no idea. Best though to wait until you're in port and have the SH3Cmd rolled back (just to be safe)

All I know is that I had the hollywood effects (men flying through the air), now I don't, is it in the zones.cfg file?:-?
Thanks.

I think they are, but if you need more info you better PM VonHelnsing who made the damage model in GWX.

Look at this thread http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=109698 there is a list of changes from GWX v.1.02 to v.1.03. Hollywood effects are in zones.cfg file, that file I couldn't found on this list that been changed. If you have a Hollywood effects in v.1.02 then you should have it in v.1.03.:hmm:

Reece,
Yes, this is all in the zones.cfg file.

GWX has always had some of the code from gouldjg's old hollywood mods, which is why its listed in the zones.cfg file (as poor sailor indicated). However, gouldjg created a mod with additional crew explosions, secondary sinking explosions and bigger fires for GWX (this is the mod melnibonian listed in his post).

There have been no changes in zones.cfg between 1.02 and 1.03, so that upgrade by itself, should not have the effect you cited. I would suggest just applying gouldjg's mod (It consists ONLY of the zones.cfg file) and you should get the effects you want. The mod was actually made for GWX 1.0, but the changes made in zones.cfg between 1.0 and 1.02 were minor (an attempt to cut down on flooding effects of extreme bow/stern hits I believe), so you can still use it with no ill effects.

AFAIK nothing was done to remove the Hollwood effects in 1.03

"Skydivers" I love it!:rotfl:maybe the first 2 ships just fluked having none, I was using the deck gun aiming at the containers & masts, usually this shows the Skydivers, but none for the 2 ships, will continue on for a while.:yep:
Thanks.

The only parts of the special effect that we changed, were the ones that created problems for various 3D damage zones and damage modelling in GWX.

Otherwise, a majority of the effects are still there or have been subsituted with comparable code.

Any changes limiting special effects were made in the interest of the damage model and will remain as such out of necessity.:ping:

A few kills later, I had a Clemson dead in the water so I thought it would be cool to move up right alongside and have a shufty...the bloody thing took exception to my old girls presence and started exploding and this poor sailor guy done a triple salco in the air straight onto my deck (well that's what it looked like) I jumped out of my skin and before I could compose myself and hit the 'F11' key the inconsiderate bugger was gone....off to have lunch with Davey Jones :o

I noticed in the Special Effects mod mentioned earlier there are lines referencing this"Effect1=#Splinter_crewmans_explosion01". But there are none in yours. Is this relevant or doesn't it matter?

Cancel that, just looked through your file and found one entry of it compared to maybe 7 or 8 in the special effects version. Maybe that's why we're not seeing the effect as often as before.

If I remember correctly the Special Effects Mod brings the GWX Damage Model closer to stock SH3 with more explosions and fires. I don't think there is an issue with the flying bodies and the rest of the bits that fell off a sinking ship.

That's interesting Meridian, I will make a mental note on a piece of paper about that! Just checked & this line is in GWX 1.03 zones.cfg!:yep:

PS. Haven't been back yet to test further - visitors!:D

A little clarification.

There have always been flying bodies in GWX. It's just hard to notice sometimes because they are very few and far between, as there are only two crewman explosion effects in the zones.cfg file. This aspect of the zones.cfg file has remained constant through all versions of GWX. The number of flying bodies has not increased or decreased. (You know, somehow, I never thought I would be typing out any sort of correspondence with that last sentence in it :) ).

Gouldjg's mod merely INCREASES the number of occassions on which you will see flying bodies (in addition to other explosion effects), as there are about eight crewman explosion effects in his mod. Gouldjg's original intent was to create a mod that was just eye-candy and not effect the damage model at all. Kpt. Lehmann pointed out to him later, that he believed that some of the special effects explosions themselves did, in fact, cause some additional damage (in the same way flying debris can damage your sub) as opposed to just looking good.

I have used gouldjg's mod and can say that IMHO if there is any additional damage it is very minor, as I have not noticed any real difference in my ability to sink ships (which is awful anyway) when using or not using the mod. So Reece, if you torpedo enough ships you will see the bodies again, but it may take a while. If you really like the flying bodies, I suggest you just apply gouldjg's mod (the caveat from my previous post in this thread still applies).

Yes that figures, I got a little too close to the last ship, 25 meters or so when it exploded in a large fireball, went back to my boat, the deck gun crew and the WO were dead with major damage to the boat, this sort of damage is not in the original Hollywood version, you could be 10 meters in that version & recieve no damage!
