I don't know if it can be called a mod, as it only modifies the torpedoes tooltips from submarine Torpedo Room. Maximum range and speed will be displayed for those who are not familiar with them.

Here is the download link and readme:

http://files.filefront.com/7049738

Torpedo Data tooltip
Basically, it just ads Maximum Range and Speed in the torpedoes tooltip for all the 6 types of torpedoes used in SH 4

Mark 10 3,500 yards (3,200 m) at 36 knots
Mark 14 4,500 yards (4,100 m) at 46 knots OR 9,000 yards (8,200 m) at 31 knots
Mark 16 13,700 yards (12,500 m) at 46 knots
Mark 18 4,000 yards (3,650 m) at 29 knots/Electrical
Mark 23 4,500 yards (4,100 m) at 46 knots
Mark 27 5,000 yards (4,570 m) at 12 knots/Electrical

The mod is JSGME ready. If you don't use JSGME, just ovewrite the menu.txt file in Silent HUnter 4/Data/Menu

Cheers,
Uzihead

Oh, it is definitely a mod, and a very good one. A very handy tool indeed.

I am also working on in-game documentation for guns and submarines classes. Unfortunately is not that easy as I thought...

Any suggestions are welcomed :)

P.S. If you know how to add ships in the recognition manual, please private me. I want to add submarines info in the museum section. I is incredible how SH4 lacks documentation completly. Hopfully in the next patch...

I'd also done this but hadn't got around to releasing it yet.

There is a new line command in the menu.txt ##NEWLINE## as well, which could be used but I havent tried it in a tooltip yet, seems to work in breifings though...

Another post that linked to this mod got me thinking. The descriptions are nice but i wanted to know the Explosive power in each torpedo. I added the data here.
you can paste this into your MENU.TXT file of this mod.

5370=Mark 10 3,500 yards (3,200 m) at 36 knots Explosive Charge 497 lbs
5371=Mark 14 4,500 yards (4,100 m) at 46 knots OR 9,000 yards (8,200 m) at 31 knot Explosive Charge 643 lbs
5372=Mark 16 13,700 yards (12,500 m) at 46 knots Explosive Charge 943 lbs
5373=Mark 18 4,000 yards (3,650 m) at 29 knots Electrical Explosive Charge 575 lbs
5374=Mark 23 4,500 yards (4,100 m) at 46 knots Explosive Charge 643 lbs
5375=Mark 27 5,000 yards (4,570 m) at 12 knots Electrical Explosive Charge 95 lbs

Nice Mod UZIHEAD, thanks!

Apparently RFB (and maybe other mods) already alter this menu.txt file - any chance you could post exactly what lines/sections you've changed in this file so we could make the changes manually?

Thanks :up:

[edit] - would it happen to be lines 5370-5375? If so, is it as simple as just pasting in the extra info you state in the readme into those lines after the torp names that are already there?

exactly, just go to your active (modded/stock) menu.TXT file, scoll down to find the line numbers above then just paste that right over top of the lines as to replace them.

Yep - sure enough - just tested the copy/pasted .txt file in game and it worked great - thanks for pointing this out - very nice having this info handy when setting up your approach and attack solution. :up:

Very cool! This is the type of stuff you'd think would be in the game out of the box and you wouldn't need a mod for. Thanks for picking up the slack! :)

This is so u guys have some idea at least historicaly how the torps worked i had put a bunch of detail in this message but it was to big so I lost 2 hours of fact finding on the wepons so here are some foot notes

Mark 10 was a slow unmagnetic tipped war head torp that was slower then the mark 14

Mark 14 was the primary use wepon that had the option of either running slow and a distance of about 7000 yards or fast at a distance of about 4500 yards Primary Function: Anti-ship torpedo for submarines
Power Plant: Wet-heater combustion / steam turbine engine with compressed air tank
Length: 20 ft 6 inches (6.25 m)
Weight: 3,280 lb (1,487.8 kg)
Diameter: 21 in (533 mm)
Range / Speed:
Low speed: 9,000 yards at 31 knots (8.23km at 57.41 km/hr)
High speed: 4,500 yards at 46 knots (4.12km at 85.19 km/hr)
Guidance System: Gyroscope
Warhead: 643 lbs (291.7kg) of Torpex
Date Deployed: 1931 Date Withdrawn from service: 1975–1980
mark 23
The Mark 23 torpedo is a Mark 14 torpedo from which the speed-change mechanism has been removed, leaving all five nozzles open. The restriction valve is locked in high power, and thus the engine can be operated at high speed only.
Torpedo, electric, passive acoutic homing torpedo. Also known as a "Cutie".
Mark 27 Acoustic Homing Torpedo or "Cutie," seen in this compartment is electrically propelled and is intended to home in on the propeller noise generated by an attacking ship. Unlike conventional torpedoes that are blown out of the tubes by compressed air before their engines are activated, the Mark 27 is designed to slowly swim out of the tube so the sound detection equipment is not deafened and the enemy is not alerted by the noise from the rush of compressed air. ( should be a great wep for killing destroyers)
Mark 18
an electrically propelled torpedo designed for use in submarines. It is single-speed, designed to run for 4,000 yards at an average speed of about 29 knots. The primary advantage of the Mark 18 is that it is wakeless.(no bubbles)
