Perhaps now is the time to start discussing SH5.In the last 4 sims we have seen various aspects of the WW2 submarine war covered but nothing has ever tried to simulate the Royal Navy submarine service at war.The RN submarines covered the whole globe against many different enemies with many different roles. Many allies used the standard British equipment.I do not want a mod of a current game. The basic sim engine can be used, but with allied equipment and voices.Perhaps Ubisoft can be persuaded to have a look at this as their next submarine project.

Take Command of Rumania's only WW2 Submarine, Delfinul and command it during its exciting service as "fleet in being" during the war with the USSR.
Take her on defensive patrols in rumanian home waters while the soviet fleet is holed up on the caucasus coast.
You can even participate in the only torpedo attack she ever made..
Can you hit the unescorted soviet merchant? Change history and sink it...
As a bonus, the two rumanian "super submarines" of 1944 might be included.
Lurk off the turkish coast while a huge battle is going on in the Crimea and change sides. Ward off a deadly depth charging by a croatian motor boat....

Of course any future subsim should have voice command IMHO

"Well done"? I was going to leave this alone, but now you pushed the button.

If you want to crticize America's lack of involvement in the two World Wars, you need to go back 200 years and understand what our attitude has always been towards Europe in general.

I will say no more here. If you want to pursue this, go to the General Topics board and start a thread there. I will gladly tell you what, where, when and why there.

I'd also like to see a WWI sim. As for voice command, Game Commander will let you control any keyboard command by voice. However, observers will rightly conclude that you are utterly insane as they watch you in action. :D

Sorry, Linton. Sometimes it doesn't take much to get my dander up. At least I offered to take it elsewhere.

As for the Silent Hunter name, it will probably always be WW2. I said just yesterday in another thread that it will probably wait for the full development of Vista and DX10.

Or do it like they have done the "Navy Field" game, only with 3d graphics.
I love how you can progress from a small frigate, within each nation (Japan, German, UK or the US) and slowly work your way up to the bigger ships. With sailors alike, building them up, taking different routes, some lead to carriers, and some to the different types of Battleships/Battlecruisers, heavy cruisers alike.
Give it a better playing system then what Navy Field has today though.

SH5 will be an Xbox360/PS3 title. Lots of great explosions, no TDC bugs (no TDC, either). Gran Tourismo on the Sea. No one will complain about the lack of Milkcows or fuel consumption issues, there will be plenty of floating powerups. Damage model improved from SH4, now your sub will flash red and make a coughing sound when its health is in jeapordy. Don't worry about finding any unused sound files or interface files from SH3, SH4 on the disk--you won’t be able to access the disk. And no "A key" crash, at last the keyboard has been taken out of the equation. If you are unhappy with SH4's manual salvo set-up, rejoice, SH5 will allow you to launch all 20 torpedoes at once, simply press L2-R1-O-X-^-X. Cloaking and other combo moves can be unlocked by warping from one arena to the next, sinking 200,000 tons per mission.

Indeed, I think I'd mentioned before, I'd be happy paying full-price for a title that does just that. No real "game" itself, it just "merges" your Sh3 and Sh4 install into one, massive, game - using the updated Sh4 graphics (with FSAA and higher resolutions, of course).

Heck, I'd pay monthly for an MMO of that title. In fact, as it is sufficiently different from this thread, I just started one with that concept (http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?p=478805) for discussion.

I'm sad to say I'm starting to have the same feeling, maybe I've overdosed on subs! One are I always wanted to see simed but never seen is fighting sail, not the dumb assed pirate jobs that pop up, but a fully fledged, realistic 16th, 17th, 18th AND 19th century naval sim.

Surely with the latest graphics abilities of most pcs a serious fighting sail naval sim could be put together, fighting as UK, France, Spain Dutch or independance US naval ships, with an option to turn pirate if required.

Has been a long time wish but never seems to happen, oh well we live in hope

In all honesty I can't stand no more subs. No UK subs, no IJN subs, no WW1 subs.... I am SICK of playing subs. I am SICK of manual torpedo solutions, silent whispers, red and blue lights, test depths, slow crawling, depth charges, billionth "crash dive" when ASW aircraft is spotted, no multiplayer... I'm still hoping for a modern/ cold war era subsim based in SHIV engine or similar.
Dynamic campagne, nice visuals, you get the point... :arrgh!:

I hear people saying, you don't need nice 3D rendering for modern subs, cause you'll be submerged 99% of the mission time. But hey, it's not about seeing! It's about knowing, that you could see nice 3D visuals if you surfaced the boat (while your not going to do that ofcourse)! :know:

We could have it WWI...:hmm: only the U-Boats would be more rickity and have no TDC...

Second thought, scratch that idea.:dead:

Long shot, but has anyone ever played PT-109 from Spectrum Holobyte, released in 1987? That was a fun game.

:know:

Hoping for same sim :) . Dangerous Waters/Sub Command didnt satisfy me in tiny bit so UBI could make it better...

I'd love to see a WW2 RN subsim, hunting U-boats in the North Sea, sinking Rommel's tankers and closing the Malacca Straits. There would also be the chance to repeat Cdr Hezlet's feat of sinking the Jap cruiser Ashigara with 5 torps from over 4km away

I would prefer a Destroyer Command 2 and not a SH IV.

I'm afraid that the exploits of RN subs in both World Wars are just not well enough known to make a commercially viable game. The U-boats got plenty of publicity and the USN had Hollywood to popularise its Submarine Service but the RN had very little, in literature or the movies.

Now those of us who know something about the subject are aware of the large variety of tasks that RN subs undertook, from shore bombardment to large scale resupply missions via anti-U-boat patrols and acting as navigation beacons for raiding and invasion forces. We would buy it, but are there enough of us to make it pay?

I don't think Ubisoft would take the chance, but maybe someone else would? Obviously it couldn't be called SH5, but what's in a name. Maybe one of the smaller producers might try it, initially as a direct sale download only project, like Dangerous Waters originally was.

The 'standard' enemy fleet:

1 Cruiser - left for last - 2/3 torps
1 Escort, dispatched easily with rockets and 40mm gunfire
1 Destroyer, usually sent to the bottom with a solitary torpedo
1 Submarine, mixture of 40mm on the conning tower and rockets. Unless it submerged, in which case dump a couple of DCs on it.

Huzzah. And then back to Tulagi for beer and medals.

People started talking about a possible SH5 several months ago on this board.
You're a little late.

Better late than never, a bit like America and World Wars.

I know the next title:

Ubisoft announces Silent Hunter 5, "Dolphins of the Black Sea"

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH :rotfl:
