Well done on GWX! I installed a clean install of SHIII, and GWX. The game has changed things that I like (TONS of ships everywhere- Kiel actually looked like a harbor and not some ghost town!) and stuff I don't like (You nerfed my favorite weapon- the deck gun! even though it is more realistic.)

The only problem I have is this: When I played stock SHIII, the game ran fine. The only time I got any kind of slowdown was when I was running really high (1024) time compression. Other than that things were fine. But with GWX, the game really chugs along. I'm trying to lower the detail settings, but just wonder if there's anything else I can do to help the performance.

How much RAM you have? What's the specs of your computer? If you're having lagging troubles try enabling the Little harbour traffic mod and the 8Km Atmosphere. That way you will miss the harbour traffic but the game will run faster.

Many people experience a drop in frame rates when in harbour....it should pick up nicely when your out in the open sea :arrgh!:

I had the same problem until I installed a new graphics card, now it runs better than when I had only Stock SHIII

Hello fellow kaleun! As the other officers previously said,do enable the harbour Lite mod and use 8km Atmosphere.I actually use a mod that makes the sea/sky more clear at night.

If your problem occurs when you are looking an explosion, all you have to do is lower particles. In Stock SH3,i had particles to 60 and it was fine.In GWX it was like a slide show.I put it to 30 and it's fine again. No reason to use low detail textures after i did that.

I have just a modest nvidia 6600.

I have a Radeon 9250 lol and tis ok on mine
Choppy in port and when close to a convoy
I could use the Lite harbour but prefer to see live ports

The 16km atmosphere doubles the game view from the 8km but increases strain on the system in relation
I use the 8km for that reason

The only problems I have in GWX is when I get on the bridge and look in certian directions I'll get a massive fps loss (from 60 to 30) and the same thing with the periscope unless I zoom in with it then it fine, but when I zoom out the same thing happens. What is it, my PC runs it fine, I'll post my specs give me a sec.

Intel (R) Core(TM)2 CPU T7200 @ 2.00 GHz (2CPUs)

Can anyone tell me why it does that? Its only the bridge scopes and only zoomed out.

Thanks for the help, and btw I love GWX. Good job guys keep up the great work.

I get that too
Usually if a pan to starboard from the bridge then it slows down

IIRC I had it in stock too but then my system isnt nowhere near yours lol

Yea and the funny thing is that it just kinda started happening. It used to work fine and dandy but here in the last month or two it has started acting up like that. It has unfortunately effected me so that I don't really play it like I used to. I've been playing HOI2DD w/ CORE lately and I am still looking for a solution, thought it might be my driver but I checked up on it and thats a no-go.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

How fragmented is your hard drive?

This is going to sound really really odd, but anyways I'm going to explain it.

Saw a post where you can force render the application via the videa card program. So I went in and added SH3 and forced this setting.

Anisotropic filtering: 16x
Anisotropic optimization: On
Anisotropic sample optimization: On
Antialiasing setting 8x

Then I reentered the game. Turned on FPS (Cntl F8) and I really couldn't tell what it was saying there but they were all triple digits. But when I looked toward the bow area it would lag up again.

Then I just for the heck of it (honestly don't know why) I pressed shift+ page up and bam it worked perfect. I noticed the differance the second I touched it, it smoothed up just like that. :hmm:

I have never understood what the shift page up thing does, but is there anyway to force that as always on? Seems to me that it fixed whatever the problem was earlier, but I must do it every single time I open the game. Is there anyways at all to have this turned on the moment you open the game. I don't mind if I have to turn it on myself but it would be nice:dead:

Pressing shift+PGUP or whatever the hell it is turn on features that turn AA right back off. Unless someone corrects me,...your FPS went back up bc you just turned AA back off.

EDIT: I would guess that with all of those setting cranked up your video card is having a hard time rendering the wake on the bow of your boat. Try turning Anisotropic filtering down and the other setting to off. Back your AA down to 4x AA and take another look. If the problem goes away start turning the setting up one by one to see how far you can push it before it starts to puke.

No no no, they got better when I turned it ON........:damn: :damn: :damn:

I did this three or for times just to make sure I wasn't going crazy. I looked at the bow and it was noticably lagging, the very second I turn it on it cleared up, the second I turn it off it lags up again......

Since when does turning on more video options make games run smoother:hmm: Oh well it solved my problem and I'm happy know, though alittle lost ad confused lol.

When you say that your turned "it" on what did you turn on? If you forced all of those setting before you started the game and it lagged untill you pressed shift+PGUP that is because by pressing shift+PGUp you turned off all of the setting that you forced earlier. It gets blurrier so that it looks kinda like AA buts its not AA. You are running with 0 AA at that point hence the increase in FPS. Unless im misunderstanding you somehow (entirely possible).

I tired it again just now but without all the other things I forced and it didn't work. I went back and forced all the setting I mentioned in my previous post and turned "it" on (shift page UP) and again everything smooted out the second I did that (ie my fps increased.......the game ran smoother....)

Don't worry about bieng confused, I am as well. Never in my computer gaming career (lol) have I ever turned on more settings and the game runs smoother at that rather than the lower settings....Maybe my computer is so highspeed that if I run programs at al lower setting it run it slower (worse), but that just doesn't make any sense at all lol, then again my post rarely if ever do.:hmm:

I read a post on the subject a long time ago but unless I am mistaken its an either or situation. What I mean is, if you turn on all of those setting in your video card setting before the game they will only remain on and functioning untill you press shift+PGUP. You are running at Anisotropic filtering: 16x Anisotropic optimization: OnAnisotropic sample optimization: On Antialiasing setting 8x untill you press shift+pgup. As soon as you press that it turns off everything you turned on in your video card before game, and turns on HDR or whatever setting that thing affects. So you have HRD (or whatever that key combo turns on) but you no longer have Anisotropic filtering: 16x
Anisotropic optimization: On Anisotropic sample optimization: On Antialiasing setting 8x. You cant have both at the same time. With all of those setting turned back off and only HRD (or whatever it is) running your FPS may be going up because its not taxing thevideo card as much. Hit shift_PGUP again to turn it back off and you go back to Anisotropic filtering: 16x Anisotropic optimization: On Anisotropic sample optimization: On Antialiasing setting 8x, and that may be more than your card can handle. Someone correct me if I am wrong because I would like to have this clarified as well.
