Ive shortened the sounds to 15 seconds (+-1) and it seems to be in the tolerance of the game.

They work fine now and sound very good for their length.

But... keep the long files in a seperate directory... maybe they will come in handy someday when ubi fixes it... maybe...:doh:

A compilation of the finest sounds for Pacific Aces, SH3 and various other sources compiled for SH4, replacing EVERY
sound with high quality and hollywood capable sounds, to kick some serious Japs-butt. :D

Neado! How to Install?:
Extract to your Silent Hunter 4 folder and enjoy one of the best soundpacks for SH4 available on the net.

Bonus!!:
Also compatible with Silent Hunter 3 - WOW! you don't even have to rename the files!!11 (oh my goodness Ubisoft... ;) )

However, some other people are reporting the same sound bug with the original version and unaltered files.

OMFgeeee .... ok... i fixed the prob, adding a 3 second pause at the end of Crashdive_int , Divealarm_int and surface_int...

But theres a quite larger problem and i think this has nothing to do with my soundpack and is just a ****ing bug... it's quite simple:

Crashdive, normaldive and surface will only play ONCE per gamesession and if you're going to crashdive or surface a second time, all you hear will be silence...

As you say in German "Im at the end of my Latin" i don't know how to fix this... ill have a look into it but hopes are thin until ubi patches this.

I will now try the orignal soundfiles . if they too just play once.. its ubis fault...

Maybe clamps, and i think it's the only way.... sh4 has somekind of "timelimit" for these files... if youre over the timelimit, they wont play again because of this sound loop bug...

im sorry guyz... either ill redo everything for speech files or cut the files short so that theyre in the limit OR UBI WILL FIX THIS SO THAT WE CAN USE FILES IN A LENGTH WE FEEL GOOD...

...in the 'data\sound\music' folder are two files:
Going_Down.ogg
Going_Down_2_Master LOOP.ogg

...actually, two questions.

First, I can't find ANY files with these names in the stock Sh4 install. So...what are they used for?

Also, what is the source of these? That's an AWESOME sound bit!

They WERE in use with Sh3 but i've never heard them there either!

They are from Call of Duty 1 i think when you're about to storm the red square in moscow :arrgh!:

Maybe it will be implented in a next patch when your sub is doomed or just when the game is over? Would be nice eh? hehe :cool:

Just a small critique, but I personnaly felt the original GQ alarm was closer to a WW2 era alarm than the newer one (not the words, just the actual alarm sound). If you could somehow mate the "General Quarters" announcement with the stock alarm sound, that would be ideal in my book.

I agree. Rapidshare blows. Great sound mod, but it took me forever to get it. Even though I have a 15mbps/2mbps line, I downloaded from Rapidshare at 80kb/s, whereas from a place like Filefront or Fileplanet I download at 1.5mb/s.

Hi That Fairbanks Morse engine sound is absolutely brilliant, so different to the GM two strokes, well done! I heard one such engine when I was a kid in New Zealand in the early fifties and never forgot it, I cant remember the submarines name but it was in Wellington. British Commer trucks had a similar opposed two stroke engine in the 60's

It was possibly a computer hiccup (seeing as I was screwing with the settings at the time) but I got caught in this *ka-ka-ka-choop* like sound loop.


This HAS to be some sort of error. It only occurrs when I crash dive. I dive, hear all of the cool things going on ;-) and then, all of your other awesome add-ins get killed do to aforementioned *ka-ka-ka-choop*.

Well I only hear creaking at 1. I did a crush depth test and got to 388 ft with no further creaking. Of course I went too deep and was sent to Davy Crocket's locker. :lol:

Data should be the second folder when you place it in the MODS folder. For instance, lets say you have Mod X. When you dl it to your computer it is probably compressed. You use winrar or some other unzipper to get the directory out of the file. Lets say it looks like this (---> means you open that folder):

Mod X ----> DATA ----> Submarine ---->ect.

What you want to do is put the Mod X folder in the MODS folder in the main SH4 directory (with your other mods). When you open JSGME it should then find the mod as the mod name, NOT JUST DATA.

So when you go into your SH4 directory it should look like this:

SH4 -----> MODS ----> Mod X -----> DATA

Thanks for this mod. Crash dive is cool:) I think the 'S'urface sound should be used also when "changin' depth to 0". I have some strange sound inside boat. A long ram, like the diesel sound but slowed down...strange.

One more thing - can you replace the native "clear the battlestation" whistle with something neet? It's the loudest sound - and annoying too.
And a question - I've found in the game folder some sounds of crew responses I've never heard in game - 'bout weather, ammunition and others - is it possible to match them with the right activities in game?

I'm using the mod and I don't hear creaking below lvl1. Nothing, very quiet.

I often get the repeating thunking noise after leaving TC too, but I'm not sure it's related to the mod or not. I notice that I NEVER get the thunking if I leave TC by hitting ESC to get the save screen and then ESC again. This automatically brings you to TC=1 without hiccups. Of course, if you get booted out of TC by sighting a ship or aircraft, you may still get hiccups.

Flymar, I think the mysterious slow-motion sound you're hearing is the hiccup/thunking I'm referring to. Save and reload and it should be gone.

I love this mod.. but I have one small problem.
My double AA guns on the Balao sounds really tuned down.. can't barely hear them.
When there is an attack I can here the other machinegun clearly.
But when I change to the other AA station, the sound is tuned down again.

I do not have this problem with the deckgun or the bigger single AA gun.

No I cannot. I can hear this sound... but rather seldom. I play with real sound travel unchecked.

Im getting crashes when i use this, i tried uninstalling SHIV, reinstalled play game with 1.2 patch and no mods for few days then tried the sound mod runs perfectly till about 20min into the game then i get a CTD, every time.

Anyone else getting this:hmm:

Could it be a certain sound file thats doing it where i could delete it, as i really like the way these sounds work with the subs.

It doesn't but it'd sure be nice, especially after watching the bonus DVD that came with the game and seeing how the crewmen called out bearings (such as "double oh", instead of "zero zero").

I´m running this mod on SH3 with 1.4patch and works fine but when I exit the game I get an error which Windows informs comes from SH3 sound mod.
I also get a CTD sometimes.
Any ideas ?

I tried to run this mod in both games and it worked wonderfully in SHIV, but not in SHIII. It crashed a number of times until I changed sound mods completely. So, for what that is worth, its all I know. Great for IV...bad for III.

I tried to get this mod off the filefront links mentioned but it's dead. I'm losing my 8mb dsl soon, so I wanted to get this b4 I do. I'd use rapidshare but I only get 30k/s there which sux, filefront etc I get up to 600k/s at times, usually 200. So if someone could please provide a filefront link to it that works, it'd be awesome. I've been wanting to grab this for long time but it's huge. lol. Awesome idea for mod, alot of the sounds in stock are rather a let down.

The links don't work because the mod is five years old, and those sort of sites don't keep them up for long.

Did you install the mod while in port? If not, random badness can occur, sometimes in ways that apparently have nothing to do with the mod you installed. (How do I know this? Wanna see my scars?)

Yes, installed while in port, just had another CTD when hit by destroyer gun caused damage.

How do you remove the Das Boot sound files from this? I love this mod, but the More or Less More or Less screaming in my ear every 10 seconds is driving me nuts and spoiling the game. I can't find the files in the sound folder, so can someone tell me the name and location of the files so I can remove them please.
