Hi all,
Finally I stumbled across a good video showing what todays radar systems are capable of.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SxatbKEHo3Y
This video shows the Smart-L (Signaals Multibeam Acquiring Radar for Targetting - Large) and the APAR (Advanced Phased ARray) system working together to handle incoming threats.
Though the video is a bit "gung-ho" it does give a glimpse of what a present day radar system can and will do. Don't forget the combat managment computer below-decks though. Don't think a human controls the launch process, the human only releases the fire-inhibit switch, the rest is done by the computer. With the rest I mean target priorisations, classification, engagement and ofcourse detection.
The SMART-L system is presently the only EU system capable fo detecting, tracking and calculating a full ballistic trajectory for space-born vehicles, e.g. Space-shuttle, ISS but ofcourse also ICBMS. The other system capable of doing this (sort of) is the US SPY system.
Also an interesting view:

The IRSCAN detects and the Goalkeeper CIWS attacks an incoming missile (RL video)
Hope you enjoy the videos!
