View Full Version : Odd Camera behavior.
Thought I had figured this on out but alas, no.
When using the camera to view my sub or attacker, etc. the camera will work once or twoce, may be three times as it chould, centered on the unit. The next time I use it it will be cnetered on a point about 500 to 1000 yards off the target. The next time i usen the next unit key (period) after that the cameras pivot point moves even further away out of visual range of the unit usually and up about 100 or so feet in the air. It may then become unstalble, moving up and down thousands of feet (sea sick camera). F12 stabalizes it at the surface but hitting the next unit key sends it back into erratic behaviour. Exit the misssion and reenter and every thing is OK for the first couple of Next Unit key strokes then its back to drunken sailor time again.
ANyone know what the cause is and what the solution might be, besides locking up the grog?

are you holding the 8 button and using shift then letting go of the 8 button
if you have the camera speeding under that circumstance instead of holding
both buttons then the camera will continue to glide at slow speed without
help from you.
what I do is I either keep my finger on the eight button or if not
then when I get the camera where its going i hit
8 , numlock , 8, numlock
this sequence stops the camera flying all over without my help
hopefully this is it but im not sure if were describing the same
problem.

? Are you in sight of land when this happens. If so, it may be down to a stock SH3 bug which causes this to occur when land units are in the vicinity.

Hi MM
If you are running GWX or derivation, I 'm pretty sure that this prob won't be seen....they've managed to sort it out  *
Still exists in my modified stock 1.4b though

I am in GWX but I am also using mods from the group. THis happens in open ocean far from land so I don't think its a land issue. There are some new ideas posted in responce to my plea for help. I am going to try and see if they can sort it out for me. If not, I guess its uninstall and reinstall time again.
I will report back to the thread what happens.

If you do end up going to reinstall a defrag first can hurt
and dont forget to dump the staybehind folders.

MM,
Here is something new or maybe I just noticed it. Just before the odd behavior starts, the message "CAMERA OUT OF SECTORS" in white letters appears in the lower half of the screen. Then the weird behaviour begins. Have yu ever run across that before?
ANd if I have to do a Uninstall, I am doing a registry crawl as well, nothing will be left behind, there will be no survivors!

Hmmm not seen that one for a while
IIRC its becuase the zoom has gone out of the camera range
Not had it in GWX and have zoomed some distance looking at various things
Do you use a camera mod ?
There are some out there

I do get out of sectors occasionally with all that flying about.
I have not developed away to clear it without a restart of mission.
sorry to report.

Be very careful out there [especially when you are close to land]

I have experienced this bug many times with many mods.
Usually, it happens when I use the 'next target' view. The problem only seems to become evident when either the target I am viewing is destroyed (while still watching) or I am watching a target that moves out of visual range (i.e planes).
Sometimes the pivot point is off center and others the camera just zooms up & down on the spot.
There seems to be no way to correct this while in your current patrol. The only solution (for me) is to save & reload, no need to exit SH3.

DITTO, but never experienced this using GWX :nope:

I find the problem more associated with range and altitude than actual
chase cam scroll its likely just that the chase cam scroll locks onto
a unit at the edge of sensor range but just on its way out.
I had a lot of chances to get this when I was doing UberTorpedo
testing as the frigates would end up re entering the atmosphere
and crashing into the ocean about eight or ten miles from
where they were hit.
I got to spend a saturday afternoon trying to shootdown a squadron
of six ansons by using a squadron of five Blackswans as AA ammo.
No hits sadly wouldve made a great Pic.
My external camera sometimes rocks backwards and forwards an a angle it's like watching the classic 1960's Batman.
