As an addition to this.
I've found that we can attach animated dock poeple
WITHOUT modding the original dats!!!
Anybody know this before?

Up to the early 80's the SAS still used WWII Spec Balloons.
Were they actually WWII issue?
Don't know.
But that Squarlly Bast**d Jump Master led us to believe they were!
Course, when I joined the AirBorne, they told me military planes couldn't
land once in flight!

Well there are a few ideas in general that could be pursued.

We are working on a Bridge officer at the moment and the guy
who comes up to salute,
the no dat altered clapping guy was a last minute discvery that has far ranging implicatons. did anybody catch the guy up in the crowsnest
with binocs.

Among the other possiblities is a rework of DDay
we would be able to put troops in the Landing craft
and the like if we reskin the band.

I was already toying with the notion of enhancing the DDay flotillas
any way with some other goodies. it is a big job just to do the campaign
layer as I would have to alter alot of the existing units eqp files for what I have planned plus add in a few missing type 2 Rivers that were there but are missing at the moment.

I am also thinking that with recent developments it may be possible to model
mullberry's the difficulty that I forsee isnt making the mulberry its getting it
under tow with a tug. that I havent seen a way yet except maybe to make
the mulberry part of the tug model itself although the turns would be
rigid not supple that way.

any body got ideas on how to set a tow in sh3?

This sounds very cool - can't wait till it gets ready for insertion easily via JSGME - this and all the new debris/survivor work has great potential for livening up the SH3 world. One idea I think might be fun - put those nurses and wounded guys from the dockside onto some of the hospital ships - since we're not supposed to torpedo them at least we'd get to look at some cool new eye-candy while we watch them sail out of sight :yep:

Also, maybe you could put the band on some of the passenger liners converted to troopships, and have them play "Nearer My God to Thee" as the ship goes under :o

Hmmmm its a little much but i kinda like that nurses and wounded on hospital
ships idea. either way "Newmans" (animated crewman) probably wont
of itself make it into a JSGME mod it would have to go into each ship
custom as movement across decks and placement needs be done with
the specific ship model in mind. also the sheer volume of the details.
'the number of ships youd want to do the number and types of people
you want that are available sh3 animations (and thats a limit too) plus
the reskins of the Newmans in most cases.

I think the best thing would be to teach everybody how and have them
do their own ships.

the potentials of the no dat discovery as well as the useful research that
got the altered dat animated crewman onto River were not anticipating
the possibilities.

what Im doing now is tossing the potentials out to the community.

the D Day landing craft and your hospital ship Im sure are just the tip
of the iceberg. but all these projects we cant do ourselves unless you
secretly turn out to be Bill Gates and are feeling the need to sponser us.

attach the band redressed and rearmed where
the gun goes. some how though
I wonder if the band is one object
or twenty

if the latter there would be far too much work in the project
for too little yeild.

I do like the idea of what the final result looks like.
but as I say there is no shortage of projects this one
could be anybodies.

if the band is a single entity which I do totally doubt.
then its easy.
if its thirty individual dudes I dont know how many nodes
can be added..... and its a large tedious job.

but thats modding hopefully somebody grabs onto the
idea to experiment with "Newman's"

I think it could be a cool idea, however I do think a litle unreal
seeing a dude walking around the bridge so Free of problems when
the ship is under attack for example, watching this in a normal in rote corse it's ok but under attack it's rather unreal I guess!

The idea however as been aplyed some time ago By someone allready that I can't remember the name, and also the life boats for example, a mod with life boats and crew animations could be a cool idea but also of limeted Use if possible to add into the maine ship when sinking could be the extra eye candy that is missin g!!"!:up:

Troop ships!!

Maybe even a few troops marching the shore line in odd places?
And the fishing guy on one of DD's boats?

But remember, the more put in place, the more "harbor effect" we would see.

that the best way is teach it and have everyone do their own.
it could run into years if we commited to all of the "Newman" projects.

Dont get me wrong it is totally cool and so are a lot of the ideas for apps.
but it has that potential to dominate modding time.

I would however be curious as how you would attach them to beach.
I had assumed that the dock crowd had nodes under them.

Study of the dats, how they relate, and how they work is my main thrust.
Most of the simple things I discover or stumble upon do have some
grand reason.
This all started as a demonstration that animated survivors are
indeed possible.

talking about survivors. i have made a new skin but i am still having no luck with the hex position. with dd's suggestion i reinstalled the game and put the man in again. i change the gc_height to no avail. it loads but he is still on the surface :-?

Nice idea with the passenger liner ... torpedoes strike, boilers explode, the deck tilts higher and higher, but the band plays on...:smug:
