View Full Version : U-Boat depth out by meters!
Hi, after far too many CTD's trying to get GWX running the way I want I decited to start from scratch with just the basic map & ships, and their associated campaign files etc, It's great,:D I can do a full patrol with no CTD's, but for some reason the stock U-Boats (not just the skins) have problems with depth, this is Periscope depth:

and if I click on 35 meters for example the boat levels out at 27 meters?:-?
Please Help!
Thanks.
One word: Reinstall ;)
That depth thing sounds like GWX, with 2KTS, the boat will position few meters above the depth you ordered. Tho, not that many meters above!

Gwx has limited positive bouancy maintain 2 knots
or order your boat at zero knots to two metres below desired.

Reece,
Can I ask you a question...........are you cursed ? :rotfl:
I'm not using GWX U-boats, just stock ones, I could try putting GWX boats in but fail to see how that will help, unless campain/Land/Maps etc have an effect on them, but fail to see how, I notice GWX VIIb cfg setting for Periscope depth is 12.5 meters compared to stock 12 meters, but that is not much!:-? It is the orders that are incorrect, the actual depth displayed is correct, in the above picture periscope depth is 10 meters???:nope: There has to be a variable somewhere to change this!:yep:
Edit: Hi Venatore, yes, must be! Just trying to get a setup that I am happy with, ofcource there are soooo many mods!! The thing is that it is now running fine the way I like but for this one problem!!:damn:

You sure your uboat files are stock?
There is absolutlly no reason i can fathom for stock uboats to behave like that. As near as ive been able to discern the crux of GWX ubooat behavior model lies in mass, in conjuction with the surface and submerged displacement variables.
Off the top of my head, if you have a surface displacement of say 1192 , if you set your mass to 1191, you'll have positive boyancy. If you set your mass to say 1200, you'll sink like a rock. Go to flank, blow ballast, it wont matter, down you go. Too light a mass and i think you gain too much positive boyancy and you'll be unable to dive, riding high out of the water like a cork. Yet 0 mass gives neutral boyancy.
Re examine your displacement and and mass variables. I think you got something hinky there.
It doesn't matter what speed the boat is runnig at or even stopped in calm weater, it's still the same, I doubt that it's a bouyancy problem, the boat is quite stable, just sits at the wrong depth, clicking on depth meter to say 12 meters will still only go to 10! and it seems to be out by 2 meters/10 meters as when clicked on 35 meters It goes to 27 meters.:-? (approximately) Wierd!:x

Check your .sim files. Make sure the mass = 0.
This is the stock (one I am using):

With GWX and positive buoiancy at 2 knts the boat is always a few meters up compared with ordered depth. 2 meters at periscope depth, and 20 or more at +100
For example, i´m at periscope depth and i want dive to 100 meters at 2 knts. this could take a long time and it only reach 80 meters, for 100 metters i have to set 120 meters.
for have the correct depth you have to run at 3-4 knks or more making difficult dive silent near destroyers or scorts.

This is the stock (one I am using):
http://i66.photobucket.com/albums/h244/Reecehk/VIIbsim.jpg
That is not stock. That is a GWX sim file.
Change the "mass = 752.1"
to
"mass =0"
Problem solved.
I would have thought that if I was using stock Subs & Objects this problem shouldn't exist, so your saying that on a calm sea with no wind, U-boat stopped & I press Periscope depth, it will only go to 10 meters, if this is true, why, especially with stock sub?:x Even more wierd!:)
Edit: Posted the same time Ducimus
I'll give it a try, don't know how I made that blunder!!:88)
Thanks, Kindly!
Had this mod in: Depth Charge Shake v1.03, stoopid Me!!:88):roll:

I am having the exact same problem. So I have to find a file you show in this thread and change the mass number to zero? I am also using the "shake" mod. Where do I find the file in order to change the mass and do I have to do this with ever sub?

Is that a tweak utility you are using? Do I have that with GWX? Where do I find it?
