I want to change the green periscope display lines that are visible at night to the black display lines that are visible at daytime, anyone knows if its possible?
I threw a similar question/request (for the official patch) serveral times in ever since SH3 was released. Not only it doesn't look authentic but also it hampers our (human) visual range - because the bright green line makes such a high contrast to dark back ground color, seeing a very dark silhouette out of dark outside can be very difficult.
It's kinda like watching a movie or picture of very dark scene on a white background.
As far as I remember, no one figured out how to change it (or tried). It's probably hardcoded, tho.

meybe a low light red like the night lighting, this would still be visible but shouldnt damage night vision

i have had a look round in the files. as far as i can see there is not an image that is used for the display lines (or i cant find it) unless someone else knows where to find this, we might have to lump it

I doubt if there's any room for hope here, but when I was playing around with another thread idea about removing the numbers from the lines in the periscope view screens (see here: http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=107219 ), I noticed that there were "color" entries in the .cfg file near those locations for something called "marking lines" - I tried to change the entries there a couple of times with no luck, but I don't know anything about hex and color designations so my testing was spotty at best. Also, I didn't see anything in there that looked like it varied by night or day, so even if what I was doing could have changed the color it might only have been noticeable during the day (I only checked it at night during my tests). Still, I thought maybe you might want to take a look in there and see if there's any possibility there.
Good luck!

If some hex expert can locate where it is defining the color of the line...
