Looking at the screenshots which all show small dials, I'll say a dials-mod.

I think its a safe bet that my very first mod for SH4 will be a Modders Fast Loading mod.

To be honest the game is looking fantastic :up: and I'm struggling to think of a MOD, but I'll give'er a go. I think the first MOD should be the abillity do drive each engine independently (if not already a feature) and that includes being able to run the electrics on the surface. That or sort the flags out, get 'em blowing in the same direction as the wind etc.

With expanding dials (excellent), I'll go with this too. It just detracts from a great-looking map/chart.

Probably not the first mod, if it's at all possible, but I wonder if the SH3 models can be brought into SHIV so it's possible to have one game engine with the ability to play the Atlantic or the Pacific.

As stated by others they DO expand. This is what UBI wrote on the official site:

The resizing of items (for the dials in the HUD) is used to provide more information to the player when is needed. When changing the submarine’s course, the dial increases in size to clearly see the bearings written on it. This is even more useful when playing in HD resolutions:

I'd actually quite like a mod to rename my crew. I'm sure that will be fairly easy. Probably.

I read that skins/textures can be edited and saved but that extra units can not be added.

The depth dial looks like it will be difficult to read even when it's expanded because it has a dark colored arm against a dark colored background. This is one reason that I hoped that SH 4 would allow us to use the number pad in order to enter a depth.

:rock: Ooh, ooh, me, me, I got it! The first MOD will be getting the forward dive planes to raise and lower as they should. In all the footage I've seen of the game the Gato class' forward dive planes are in the down position when surfaced. In reality didn't they retract when the boat was travelling along the surface? Like this:

Some sound mods. The sound on the video posted here on the subsim main-page sounds similar to SH3.

I am almost 100% positive the first mod will be

1.) Graphics in nature. Ppl love their eye candy.

or

2.) some removal of any renown system that may exist.

Hi all, Well I am waiting to order the game, from Subsim's link, until I find out if it's supports Anti-Aliasing. With that said... The icons in the lower right(officer icons in shiii) look a little sterile for my taste. And although I don't know how well it will work out since they look pretty small too, I will attempt to do a 'Run Silent, Run Deep' Officer Icon set for SHIV. You know, like the 'Das Boot' Officer Icons that were done by Ailantd for SHIII. Cheers

Anyone pick up on this yet . Is it just me, or do the flags the surface ships are flying look huge? My vote is for smaller flags. Get closer or get better at recognizing ship types. The outsized flags look really silly to me in an otherwise gorgeous sim.

Well I for one would agree, from what I have seen so far I think they look awfully damn big too! With that said, it's really Off Topic for this thread and deserving of it's own topic/thread. You should go ahead and create a new topic concerning the flag size. If I don't see one from you soon then perhaps I will make it.

That was exactly my hopes too. I can imagine a captain asking the boat to be brought to a certain depth, instead of pointing to the numbers on the dials on his ship and saying 'take her there'.

If SH4 turns out to be a decent game, I guarantee that I will release a Depth Charge Shake mod for SH4 like I did for SH3. Hopefully the file structures of the two games will be the same. Anyone here try my SH3 version of this mod? It will shake you up. :doh:

How about a mod with an RN t-boat in the Mediterranean as a playable?

It would be lovely to see an RN type, but the cost in time and developement would be like creating another version of Silent Hunter. It's not just the boat model, it's the entire crew and interface model that would need doing to make it realistic. Keeping to a few US types means crew and interiors can be largely cloned. Rmember, they had to delete about a third of the interior model from SH3 to get SH4 out the door.

I'd still hope that I might be wrong and that a RN boat would appear, as a major upgrade add-on, but we cannot expect it.
