Well i noticed that there has been a great deal of inprovement to the soundfiles and I must say I love them, but i wanted to try and edit some of them for my personal taste.

The question then becomes, how can one edit the files?
According to my SH3 sound folder all the files are now playable by winamp. What program could be use to add aditional sounds on a few of the tracks.

Also have we unlocked the mistery of how each sound file is called to use in the game. For example when the submarine is submerged under water at say 26 meters and moving at 3 kts, I here the following sound files played.

Creaks lvl 1,2,3,4
amb submarineinterior
and maybe a few others as well but these were the easiest to pick out

What determins when these sounds are being played in the sim itself. I always thought the creaks were played based on the depth the player is at. However Im now pretty sure all the creak levels are being played while simply being submerged below 25 mtrs.

Somebody in the UBI Sh3 forum pointed out that sound.dll was the file that contains the information on the sounds and how and when they are played, but they did not know how alter the file.

Has anyone actually managed to ADD new sound files that work into the game. I'm not talking about music or gramaphone tracks. I'm talking about a whole new sound effect added into the sim.

For example lets say that we created a wave of a hatch closing/opening. We then found a way to make this sound play when going from the command room into the radio room and vis a versa. This sound would then be called to play when the player clicks on the hatch from the 3d view of the command room or radio room.

Or has any sounds been added to a keystroke.

Just wondering a bit about the sound files and how they work in the sim. So hopefully someone much smarter then me can fill me in on the inner working of sound effects.

Thanks again and keep up the great work.

The Sound.dll file I'm sure is hard coded, you can use minitweaker to adjust the SH3.sdl mixer file, this is created by a unix based program actually called sdl mixer (so I have been told), there are a lot of sounds not used like the radioroom telemetry, and no one has ever been able to enable it. There is another file called Pump.dat that contains files such as crew cheers. If you haven't you could download my sfx pack and give a go, see signature below.:yep:
Cheers.
