View Full Version : Cannons on Hurris in 1939?

Was on patrol in Sept 39 when I got bounced by a pair of Hurricanes, apparently the Mk II version with 2 x 20mm cannon on each wing.

Isn't this a bit early in the war for it to make an appearance?

Created some damage to port prop shaft () and aft torp tubes (!)

That's weird. MkII appeared first in 1940, it was equipped with Hispano Souza Cannons like most later versions, while the earliest-MkI had Browning machine guns. But i doubt that Hurricane's armament is modified by the game. It probably uses cannon equipped variant of the airplane 'cause it hurts more;) .

P.s. Those cannons were a mean weapon.

How many nuts and bolts were used to attach the wing to the fuselage :hmm:

Jimbuna, now why have you gone and pointed out that the Hurricane has three more bolts in GWX than it did in reality? :rotfl:

We'll still look at it though.

Just reminds me of a conversation I once had with the Kpt. on TS about 'rivet counters' JS

Hi!

Stock Silent Hunter III gave the Hurricane 4 x 20mm cannon, and I don't think anyone has yet gotten around to replacing those with the 8 x 0.303-cal Browning machine guns they used historically during the first two years of the war.

One thing that has changed in GWX is that aircraft will actually strafe you in addition to dropping bombs. IIRC this work was pioneered by Sergbuto with the assistance of the NYGM team, among others.

Just another reason not to fight aircraft on the surface, I guess... :)

Actually, Hurricane with 8 x 0.303-cal guns was planned for the second part of the Air-attacks mod, as well as Fulmar.

nice one serg, did you model that yourself?

No need to model it myself. There are plenty of different models on my PC, just waiting to be converted to SH3. Where to find time to convert them all, not to mention modelling?

The Hurricane IIC shouldn't be showing up in RAF service until June 1941, while the Sea Hurricane IC should begin showing up in February 1942.
