This German minesweeper ran aground outside Florø, Norway last night, most likely due to navigational error...(no kidding?)

It was off Norfolk or Lord Howe Islands (can't remember which one). I know the locals loved it, they had all the media and salvage teams filling up the hotels in off season. A good portion of the crew also stayed ashore.

Ships from the UK have a bad history of finding the rocks here in Australia. Captain Cook get's to claim the first honours

Strange that the ship is not more damaged, they had to be going fast to get that far up on the rock.

Well, the painting is scratched.

But sure the rock driver has a good insurance company.

Heavy lift cranes will get that thing off mind you they can take about 5 weeks to get from south korea to norway oh well looks like they will just have to keep paying the parking tickets.

Why should they get help from all the way from South Korea. Just use some European company.

Smitt cant do it mamoet cant do it they need the only two heavy lift cranes in the world to come and lift the ship off the rocks and they are based in south korea.

unless they can some how jack the ship up and then pull it off backwards which could do more damage to the ship.

They were apparently able to drag it off on the 4th try today according to this norwegian news article: http://www.bt.no/lokalt/sf/article342740.ece and are now headed for the naval base Haakonsvern in Bergen.
