its already in the game, but the model is a clone of the viic. most of the viic/41s had 4 liferaft cannisters on the bow and a slooped bow nose. other than that there was really no differance besides the stronger hull, and being a little lighter

it looks like the mapping coords went haywire. did pack3d do this?
What 3D program do you work with?
I know that with 3ds Max 9 I have to edit the exported files in a
note pad program to correct things to avoid the UV screw-ups!

You are gonna need to edit the files exported from Max
before you import them with Pack3d.
3DS Max 9 does goof stuff to the files.
When you export, save the file with a different name.
Compare the files in Note Pad or a better text editor.
(I use one I wrote)
You will see the difference!
Copy and paste from the Pack3d file the TOP lines.
then do a search for mtl in both files and compare and correct as needed.
To look at files without going into the game,
Get Deep Exploration by Right Hemisphere.
It will save you DAYS!!!
If they don't look right in Deep X,
They won't look right in Game.

flip the faces before exporting to *.obj. You´re looking at the inner left hand side actually. The anchor and it´s surrounding faces are flipped already, that´s why they´re shown correctly. So don´t flip these.

is there a command in max that will flip all the inverted faces? i had to do them one by one because some faces arent flipped and some are, it took forever. but it worked and i'm going to take a shower and go to the movies. when i get home ill start working on making the changes to get it to work in the campaign

its still going tobe a few till its ready though, i'm trying to work out the kinks in the model. mostly the mapping of the cannisters on the deck. Does anyone know of a way to add another texture into the DAT file for the sub? Can't seem to do it with Pack3d.

find an existing texture
identify all associated nodes
copy and paste
change/adjust the ID´s to prevent doubles and CTD
change the texture´s name
ready to import the new *.tga using Pack3D

I'm fairly sure a script could be written to do it.
But I'm still going through the 3ds SDK to see if I can
do some correcting on the obj export plug in to better fit SH3.

Go to top view and drag a box around all faces of the hulls left or right side. Then push UNIFY. This should turn all faces to the same direction. When done you may flip as needed.

i might have to release it as a jsgme plugin that overwrites the regular viic folder. The current gwx v1.02 viic/41 is regular viic. The viic/41 folder isnt used at all as a playable sub. When the game starts up as you are to play with a viic/41, it loads the regular viic folder up.

HOWEVER, if the gwx guys can send me a pm, I might be able to figure out how to get the actual viic/41 folder working in-game. I believe they changed it in the new version of gwx, because i can no longer play the viic/41 from its root folder in the single mission. So they probably know how to get the root folder back working
I do have both .DAT's working. The regular viic and viic/41, so like I said, if someone from the GWX team can hit me up, I might be able to change it so the viic/41 root folder is used in game.

So all you need to do is put your "modified" VIIC files under the VIIC41 folder (in the usual correct folder structure and using the same VIIC names) and SH3Cmdr will replace the stock VIIC settings with yours.

jcones, I did what you said and placed the viic folder to U-boat\VIIC41\data\Submarine\NSS_Uboat7c
I can physically see that it replaces the file in the sh3 folder, however it wont load the edited folder in game, it still loads the old folder that should have, and did get moved to the sh3commander backups folder
any ideas?

Just to confirm, you are using the same file/folder names as the stock VIIC aren't you? As you are using SH3Cmdr to *replace* the stock VIIC settings with your VIIC/41 settings, file names etc must be exactly the same as stock. For example:
SH3 Commander\U-boat\VIIC\data\Submarine\NSS_Uboat7c\NSS_Uboat7c.* ** <stock settings - added here only for example purposes>
SH3 Commander\U-boat\VIIC41\data\Submarine\NSS_Uboat7c\NSS_Uboat7c .*** <your VIIC/41 files - notice filenames are same as stock VIIC>
SH3 Commander\U-boat\VIIC42\data\Submarine\NSS_Uboat7c\NSS_Uboat7c .*** <your VIIC/42 files - notice filenames are same as stock VIIC>
If you did do this, did you rollback SH3Cmdr *prior* to making the change?
For if done correctly there is no way that SH3 would be pointing to an SH3Cmdr Backup folder somewhere else or using settings that "no longer exist". The pointing is hardcoded - so if you replace the contents of Submarine\NSS_Uboat7c, the game will pick up the replacement. And prior to R2.6, that's what SH3Cmdr did - copy in full replacement VIIC files to simulate the deeper dive of the VIIC/41 (now it writes direct to the existing zon file).

ok problem solved. It actually had something to do with the single mission I was running to test it. I guess I had to update it before starting after the changes.
Everything is in order!

So this is an actual VIIC/41? The VIIC/41 that came with the game was just a regular VIIC but sold to us under the guise that it was a VIIC/41
I klnow there is a VIIC/42 but none of them were actually built it says on Uboat net. so is the VIIC/42 actually an improvement or is it just a VIIC clone too?
This mod, will give us an actual improved VIIC in the VIIC/41 then I am all for it.

Stock SH3 had the Typ VII C/41, but it only used the Typ VII C model and specs. The C/41 however was built to withstand greater depths. And so with the help of SH3 Commander a second set of VII C/41 was included with the SH3 commander, and as soon as you selected a VII C/41 and restarted SH3 Commander, it would recognize yours using a C/41 and copy the data for the correct uboat into SH3 before starting the game.
So far the C/41 in SH3 and GWX however, was visually identical to the normal C version. Thanks to cobalt that will change :up:

There may be some delay on this today. People are having trouble getting it to work via sh3cmdr. either sh3cmdr or sh3 itself is being a little picky. It seems if you don't do certain little things, sh3 won't load the new DAT in-game. for example I had to update my single mission I made to make for the new DAT to actually work when it got loaded. Now it works everytime for me though, and i can switch back and forth from VIIC to VIIC/41. It seems not the case for everyone right now though. Will get back to you.

everyone is having problems with using it with commander for an unknown reason.
if anyone could shed some light on this, i could release it ];
basically, sh3cmdr will overwrite the DAT just fine(you can watch it overwrite it upon startup), but when the game loads, it still uses the old DAT. plain and simple, thats the problem.
I'm the only one with these files that has it working perfectly, however, i dont know how i did it and can't seem to reproduce the fix for anyone else.

Well...I don't understand why most people seem to be having a problem loading this via SH3Commander! I have just spent the past hour or so running Cobalts VIIC/41 in several Single Missions, both in my GWX AND NYGM 2.4 SH3 installations!!

(Just a thought.....what would happen if you totally EMPTY the original "NSS_Uboat7c.DAT" file from SH3, before starting through SH3Cmdr? If this is possible, there would be NO "original" data for SH3 to use, so perhaps the new .DAT file from SH3Cmdr would load then?)
Edit: After checking again, the Liferaft Cannisters didn't show up "in-game"! Hope this isn't gonna be too big a problem?

Still no luck with getting your life raft cannisters to appear. Even when I put them in my mod enabler too and activate it. It has something to do with opening up the missions/campaign like you did to get them to appear, reading your .dat file. I guess? :88)

FOR ANYONE THATS CURIOUS; This mod does infact work. The model and textures are not a problem, the problem is something in sh3 that isn't letting the new DAT file load via sh3commander, and appearently jsgme too. Hopefully we can get this resolved by the weekend and I can release this mod.

I am using SH3commander 2.7 as well. I tried creating a mision but it wouldn't show up in the game. Color me stupid, but i know jack about the mission builder.

Created mission, but still no darned cannisters!:cry:
Even tried your suggestion of removing the files from SH3Cmdr and manually replacing the stock 7c with your 7c41......still see the boat OK, but no cans!
I guess this is gonna be one of those irritating little things that will end up being SOOOOO easy to solve, once the solution is finally found!!:up:
Still.....it'll be worth the effort to see a real 7c41 in SH3!!:D

unfortunately, i'm the only one who can get this working with sh3cmdr and jsgme, and i did it by accident and can't recreate the solution.
:damn:
jscones got it working with stock sh3, but not gwx.
this is certainly a mind boggler
gonna do some tests tommarow

Still no success with getting this to work with GWX (the liferaft cans still won't show)

Tried for the first time to load the 7c/41 into my NYGM 2.4 installation, by using the SH3Cmdr "method" and guess what?

Cannisters and everything, first time out!!!! HOORAY!!
Now gotta figure out what's stopping it loading into GWX.

Hi Cobalt, I'm running a rather different version of GWX, because of the bouyancy problems with GWX U-Boats I'm running stock, and works great, I can switch between U-boat versions easily, if you like I can do some tests and find out the relevent files that are causing the problem ..... well, give it a good try!:yep:

yeah, its definately a problem with gwx. I got it working with mine though, so there must be a solution!

I'd like to thank everyone for their help on this project. Special thanks to DivingDuck for help with hex editing (in which I have never done before), Jscones for help with commander and play testing, jetsnake, mast, mush martin, reece, mountainmanuk, iblitz and shepelly all for helping by testing the mod.

Too bad I couldn't help you out further Cobalt. :( I tried everything you said to do and I tried out what I thought would fix it too but to no avail. Hopefully the GWX boys will figure this out since I play only GWX at this moment.

Cobalt, I'm the same as mast:nope: Sorry couldn't be more helpfull. Even overided all 7c's with your file as a desperation plea but to no avail:damn:. Like "Mast" I'll have to wait and hope the GWX boy's can spin their stuff, or you spin your magic and find out what you done by mistake.:up:
