How do I disable the Seagulls? I have managed to make the game stutter less in harbour but maybe this would help even more...

Do you know how to hex edit?
It's a quick one byte hack job.
I say hack job cause it's an off the wall
way it works.

Disableing the SeaGulls turns off the Bird controller and Bird Flock controllers.
You will notice FPS is better in port.

Open Scene.dat and change the value shown below.

Like I said, this is a hack job I still use.
Now that I know better, I should extract the whole
chunk as the controllers MAY still be activated,
just not rendering the images.

Thanks privateer!

I really don't know hex edit but I suppose I could figure it out with the right tools, which program do you use?

Maybe it would be easier if you just uploaded your scene.dat? :smug: Is it the GWX version?

For all of you that wonders why I don't buy a new rig, well I'm waiting for DDR3 to get available on AMD motherboards in 2008! :|\\

I can't hex edit either....unless I'm guided line by line! Don't s'pose I ever will either...being number blind doesn't help! Privateer is doing a hex edit tutorial:-

He uses Hex Editor and provides a link above thread.

Know about that waiting feeling. Decided to up upgrade my system to Core2 Extreme, Nvidia GTX 8800 in SLI, 680i board etc. All stuff is readily available. Just about to start getting it together when read reports of memory behaviour in 680i MB. Probably won't get sorted for months. Lets hope you won't have similar probs with your DDR3.

Okey, I disabled the Seagulls and the game runs rather smooth in harbours now. Do you think I should disable more?

Cheapskate, thanks for helping out! I'm sure they sort it out soon, as long as it doesn't interfere with SH3!

I have thought about disableing some of the Dock people
that you can't see unless you fly about.
I think that would free up some power that would be better used within viewing distance from the bridge.
And before you just start randomly trying to disable things in files
spend sometime reading through old threads as there is a wealth of info to guide you.
And keep an eye on the Hex Editing 101
I'll be adding to it as soon as I hit S. Carolina early this comeing week.
