Why can't I disable my onboard sound card and then run SH3?

I'm suspecting that my onboard sound card uses up alot of CPU power but before I buy a new card I want to test my theory...

I assume you have tried going into your Hardware Manager, right clicking on your sound driver/card, chose properties and then chose disable this device.;)

Or restart windows and enter your BIOS and disable your on board sound via the MOBO settings.;)

EDIT - But why waste your time, SH3 is hungry for CPU & RAM. On Board sound eats CPU power like you wouldn't believe. Less strain on the CPU = Better SH3.

Whoa there nelly, just removing on board sound will not mean that SH3 will run on your system.

What's your specs? CPU, RAM, VID Card etc....

Well I know the game runs with sound but when I disable it I get CTD with error message during loading...

~1.2MHz AMD Athlon XP processor
1 GiG Ram DDR
Geforce4 Ti4600 128mb

I have a crappy system which stutters a bit in port and during bad weather...

My plan was to buy a new sound card so that I could get that extra push from the CPU which could make the game run smooth...

With SH4 on the horizon you may want to consider an upgrade of your whole system, as well to take advantage of the super-mods with SH3, GWX to name but one

there are 3 ways used to override on-board sound and video cards.
1. disable through BIOS settings
2. disable by setting a jumper on th MB (Getting rarer)
3. disabled automatically when a new card is added

Which ever way your system works, you would still need to remove the existing
drivers first.

IIRC the minimum requirements stipulated (for CPU) were 1.4 MHz :hmm:
