View Full Version : What do you think of a Research links Sticky
Mush Martin

To all subsimmers please post a list of your of top research Shortcuts for naval history sites etc
I was thinking that a lot of us use Uboat net and the like
but most of us have one or two that the others dont know.
I was wondering if its worthwhile pursuing a research
sticky where we can put up links divided
by subject
Uboats/Subs
Merchants
Escorts
Major Combatants
Nations
Battle of the atlantic chronologies
ship histories
Convoys
Battles
and the like
you know Uboat net the flower class corvette association
mike kemble page on Johnny walker
Any thoughts on a mutual research rescource sticky.

Not a bad idea there Mush:up:

:hmm:
The list could run into thousands
Needs someone to manage it so all links are on the first page and in the right place

:hmm:

your quite right of course it could easily run into the
thousands which is why I thought that
catagorizing the links would be a good proposition.
if the Idea draws enough merit and interest
then Ill start a Link gathering thread and
approach neal about a sticky to put it
on
but I feel it could be a tremendous resource for all
and would be worth the effort.

I would certainly find such a resource quite useful. Hope to see it come to fruition.
I says - gimme a starting list and I'll sticky it :hmm:
Sailor Steve
02-11-07, 04:18 PM
Yay CCIP! I think it's a great idea. I'd even be willing to manage one like that, if somebody would show me how.
And thanks Mush for bringing it up in the first place.
Mush Martin
02-11-07, 04:20 PM
I mean we are all into it big or we wouldnt be here right.
so with 1100 pairs of eyes we can see a lot more.
it would represent quite a resource really.

does anybody have previous experience managing a sticky that
can fill us in on whats involved.
we obviously all know what more or less to do with said links
once we have them to keep it organized.
top of the sticky by catagory.
is there a way to make the top lists on the sticky editable by
all so later entries can be added and have them stay at the
top.
or is that where the sticky "manager" comes in and re does it every
six months or so.
?????????????????????????????????????????????????? ???

Whoever makes the first post in that sticky can edit it to add new links
Of course we can all edit our own further down but all the links need to be in the first post
So whoever is going to do it best get a list together and speak to CCIP
You can even make the first 4 posts so you have one for ships one for subs etc
Along those lines methinks
Mush Martin
02-11-07, 04:29 PM
as always brilliant.
I was wondering how but just open with a quick set of establishment posts
for each catagory and fill them in later of course I shouldve realized.
CCIP my freind are you actually interested in it or you steve
it sounds like it could be shaping up to be time consuming for
the first little while.
(dont take that as I am not interested in doing it.)

Ok now at the top of the thread I listed a few possible catagories.
but this wouldnt be my resource it would be the communities
so maybe we should survey
What are the valid catagories that should be included in the sticky.
remember if its an odd single link like say "wattage of a liegh light"
there will be a miscellaneous catch all at the end for small issues.

should it be just historical research, I think modding issues are sort of
already covered in tools and modifs.?

Theyre trying to make work for us Canooks CCIP
however BBW is right it is my idea and though I would
love to hand off the volume of work
(or maybe part of it.)
I should see it through.
that said I notice that when bbw posted he left a description
of what each link was and I didnt (save but a few)
I think that will be typical as a result and probably
I/we will have to go through the links and make
descriptions.
so inspite of my bad example if you are posting
research links on this thread where possible
leave a brief descriptive of what its a link to.

Yes, indeed ... I really needed this, but I see a problem down the road.
What about people that want to contribute, but not read and see if the link has already been posted or is that just par for the course?
Plus a time period frame would be nice under 1945 etc.
I would be making progress if I weren't tied down with work here :dead:

I Think we should hold out a bit for more links

who have links to contribute that will be of good
value. lets give it a bit longer and then go for it.

wow
I thought this was a good idea in the beginning
but now I think it was absolutely a smashing idea.
I went through them all and it increased my enthusiasm
for the project what a potential resource this will be.
I was the big offender with two that needed deleting
and three that needed updating
there were a couple of others
I sent pm's to the contributors for update or delete.
But wow this really has a lot of potential for research
for players modellers skinners and historians alike
there is a wealth of it out there still to be posted
here
How can we appeal to those subsimmers who havent
contributed yet?
because if we can get as much as possible
it will be a wealth to us all.
