hi i installed this (replaced the guns_sub in the library) and whenever i start a game it sais "flak gun desroyed, deck gun destroyed. what is going on?

Just checking, but did you return home at dock at your home port, and then exit out of the game prior to installing it? Or have you installed it mid-patrol?

I just found out, that when using this Flak mod with my NYGM install, all flaks on u-boots go poof!:hmm:

I'm wondering. Did you correct the index?
Although it seems we may not have to everytime, it is there for a reason.
Perhap the Game Engine accesses it on a need to know fast addressing scheme?
Since a larger or smaller file is implanted, this index is wrong then.
As a precaution, I make a habit of correcting it.

Hi, I liked the look if this, so downloaded it.

I installed it at the end of a patrol once back in base. Rolled back SH3 in SH3 Commander, and built a directory stack so I could add it via JSGME.

The game loaded fine, and in base before the mission my sub had guns.

But....

Once it loaded a game and my u-boat (type VIIC) was in dock all guns, including the deck gun had vanished!

I tried it 3 times - manually adding it etc. but still no luck.

I've just seen you have added a new upload, I'll give that a try. But its certainly exhibiting odd behaviour.

@Urfisch, This is from Ref's dat file information.


"type 1001: INDEX
this one seems to be an index, there are chunk ID's and the corresponding file postition, might have to update this if some chunk has its size altered, but some tries suggest this doesnñr affect loading."

Cutting down the Shells and Gun dat files, I went through this INDEX and removed,
and corrected entries as needed.
1st, just to be safe,
2nd, to reduce the file sizes themselves.

It's just a thought at this time.

Another thought, And I haven't looked at the obj files, so I may be off base.
Are the old guns several parts and the New one obj?

Although, if that was the cause, I'd think your install would crash.
It looks to be an ID conflict as far as what I'm reading.

dont know why there are ctds...its just a modified barrel and a reworked flak skin inside the guns_sub.dat. and with my installation the new flaks cause no problems. i have installed gwx (last version)...

Just retested with my GWX install. Removed each of my mods one by one until only the new guns_sub.dat remained. CTD each time. This was immediate until I removed the "no intro" mod, then I got the intro, but CTD when it tried to load the game proper!!*

Has your guns_sub.dat been modified by anything else you might be running or is it just the standard GWX version with the barrel and skin mod inserted?

* hardly surprising that :88) just mentioned it in case it helped with diagnostics :D

First mistake.
UFlak_High.tga size of file = 3155772 bytes, but urfisch wrote:
a) in Type 2 (material block) = 786476 bytes;
b) in Type 3 (tga block) = 786450 bytes;
I have written TGA size = 3155772 bytes into blocks Type 2 and Type3, now Pack3D began to load a file.
Next mistake - Type 1 (geometry) is not connected to block Type 4 ...

WORKAROUND - HOW TO TO:

EXTRACT THE DOWNLOADED FILE INTO THE LIBRARY FOLDER!
DO NOT RENAME IT! - IT MUST BE COPY OF GUNS_SUB.DAT

If urfisch's Guns_Sub.dat is made from GWX or other mods file
Urfisch should upload and other Guns_Sub files (sim, zon etc.), that it worked
in stock game and others.

Reece, I share your confusion!

If you look at Urfisch's Library files you will note that the file Guns_Sub.dat is 7386 kb, This is Urfisch's mod.

The Copy of Guns_Sub.dat must therefore be the original GWX file renamed.

Problem is, that this shows as 9027 kb whereas all my game versions have only 8720 kb.

Urfisch's original GWX file has been modified somehow. Either that or mine are screwed up!!

What size is it on your installation??

cloned so all IDs have changed, it may cause the weird CTD or destroyed
guns.
Because you now have 2 files with the same IDs.
If no problems it still would affect load times abit since SH3 reads all this info at Load up.

My main concern about this work around is that it only cures the CTD or 'guns destroyed' error. It doesn't give me the new gun textures. :nope:

Have tried renaming both files in turn. No difference in display in Flak Training mission....20mm cannon stays same as stock.

If they are both present ...no matter which one is the Guns_Sub.dat, the game does not CTD. However if only Urfisch's file is in Library directory...then " Welcome to Crashville". No noticeable diff in load times BTW.

Why?... I don't have the foggiest...will have to leave that to better brains than mine. Like yours f'rinstance. :lol:

As for load times, it would be just micro-seconds if seconds

Use, I think.
When you in a file *.eqp write any gun.
SH3 finds it by name among devices in folder Library.
Gun must to be root (no parent ID).

You are right. I was not thinking of load up.
It does read names at start up, gets IDs
and builds the memory arrays which connects IDs.

I have not looked at the second dat to see what is going on
but I should as it seems an interesting situation.

Well it never worked for me.

As Anvart says, Urfisch's method for incorporating the new textures was incorrect and whilst the work-around stopped the CTD's it didn't give me all the new textures. In particular the perforated flash eliminator on the end of the barrel was missing.

As I couldn't see much of a difference from the stock version I deleted it.

Whether anyone else had better luck I don't know. Maybe Reece, who was also trying to get it to work can add something to this discussion ??.
