View Full Version : friendly units
can someone explain to me why there cant be friendly subs in the game, there will be friendly ships and airplanes, but why no subs in know that wolfpacks werent really used in the pacific war but i hate the feeling of being the only one out in the ocean and not being able to have other units attack with you. i know they werent in sh3 but i thought they were in aces of the deep many years ago so is it hard to put in the game or whats the deal, i would love to pull up along another sub and trade movies like in the john wayne classic operation pacific. :D
The Dev's only reason: Non essential, low priority items, therefore not warranting precious development time.
Same reason we don't get extra 3d compartments.
I'm confident both of these things will be modded to some extent. Wolfpacks more easily than the compartments.

I hope the modders will be able to make them dive, instead of just floating on the surface or tooling along submerged.
I just hope the game lets them do it. Then we can have Japanese subs as well!!!

I'll light a fire here  .
Imagine everything you do with your sub during the course of an approach and attack on a convoy. Where are the DDs? Will they turn? How do environmental factors affect this attack? How fast or slow to go? And adding the 3 dimensional element of how deep? Etc etc.
Now, try to program all these into a half-way working AI...
To make subs that act intelligently and are not just targets to keep the enemy AI busy would be a HORRENDOUSLY DIFFICULT task.
What we would probably get are subs that make themselves targets and greatly decrease the challenge for the Human Player because they make stupid mistakes.
I'd LOVE to see wolfpacks and other subs  . But if they can't act intelligently due to the millions of variables that a programmer would have to consider? I'd rather go it alone.
No Offense Intended.
Salute!!!
