I don't know if this was a rumor going around or whatever, but iceburgs are definately work, not just the map specific ice but the database iceburgs that mission designers can put it.

I seem to remember someone saying they were not solid... maybe it was just for torpedoes, but anyway, you can definately die if you hit one.

Yes, I did a test, I didn't find this out in a mission. :yep: ;)

Cheers,
David

This is great!!! This adds so much more to Ice Missions :)

Thanks for reporting.

Hm .. I can't see the bergs .. I added all 3 types. I can hit them if I get close, but they can't be seen. :nope:
Any ideas how to use them ?

Actually, I can just barely see them on the 3-d screen.

Well, there are some caveats.

The very largest icebergs (which is suppose to be about 8-10nm in diameter) will show a graphics but they don't become solid until about 1nm... also they don't show up on active sonar.

So these are all significant problems.

So, I guess my advice for mission designers is to use damage (for platforms) or removal triggers (for torpedoes) and make marks on the players map regarding navigational hazards if they wish to use the largest icebergs in their missions (to block paths or for whatever purpose).

Cheers,
David

I don't see them at all. Blank blue see. Can you post some screenshots ?

I'm fairly certain you have to have the platform selected on the 3-d viewer in order to see the icebergs.

Oh .. I did not looked under water .. I was expecting something to be seen on the surface.

That's what bugs me about the icebergs in DW. They are just walls of ice several miles long with nothing poking up. Definately need to be redone.

On the plus side, I think the environmental ice is well implemented.

The good news is that the missions designers have enough tools to be able to "fake it".

I think that maybe the word "iceberg" is the problem. Really, they're "ice keels" which used to be of deep concern to those involved with chasing Soviet SSBNs under the arctic ice.
