Lately I've dug up a site with all moonphases since back from I think 1700, so I could time my attacks for new moon, or atleast when the moon was behind the horizon, well when I was playing today I noticed that I had full moon, but actually there should've been new moon on the 6th of June 1940

So it seems the moon phases are about 13 days off. Is there an easy way to fix them or is that impossible?

I'm using GWX btw.

Are the different moonphases in different tga's or is it all in one? I guess it's either a matter of renaming the files or dragging the phases in the right order if they are all in one file. PLEASE TELL ME IT'S THAT EASY

LOL... nothing in SHIII is easy. ;) Mods are a work of art. I'm sure one of the mod gurus can fix it or tell you how to do it. I think there is a mod that changed the moon but it might not be the phases, just it's size. I can't find it or remember who did it at this moment. I'll look more but I'm sure someone will be quicker and let you know.

Hi!

The Moon phase graphics are all in the Moon.tga file, but I'm not sure of the .DAT file in which they reside.

Before you chase after the Moon.tga file, is the moon phase error always 13 days, or was it 13 days only on June 6, 1940?

If the problem is a consistent 13 day (1/3 phase) offset from the beginning of the war until the end of the war then modifying the moon.tga file will help, but if there a fundamental flaw in the way SH3 calculates what the moon phase should be then I don't think modifying the graphics will help.

I'm not sure, but i've checked the first time on 29-05-1940 game time to see if there's any chance that there'll be new moon soon, because the moon was only half visible, I thought okay, I'm not going to chase that convoy for 8 days, and commenced my first attack... I sunk 3 ships and lost contact after depth charge attacks that were going on for hours. When I got rid of the destroyers I've decided to patrol the BF11 grid sunk some shipping and then wanted to continue to a CF grid, then had a contact in heavy fog with a large freighter, which I put 2 torps in. Just before he sunk the weather changed from heavy fog and rain, to no fog no rain, and I could see the full moon, that was on the 6th of June. Now I know that the half of the moon that was visible before on the 15th of May was the left half, what I don't know is, is that the 1st quarter or the 3rd quarter(?), but I guess it's the 1st since roughly a week after that I got full moon.

I guess I'll make some checks with multiple careers to see if the difference is constant over the whole course of the war or if SH3 is just calculating it wrong...

OK. I hereby declare officially that I don't get it!!:damn: :damn: :damn:

I've created several missions with a starting date and time corresponding with my list from that website I've linked in the first post. Everything was ok, new moon at the right time, first quarter at the right time, full moon at the right time, 3rd quarter at the right time... WTF??? And in the campaign it just doesn't work like that? I will now finish my current patrol, sail home, start a new one, and check if that 13 days off is consistent throughout the whole campaign or at least the next few patrols. Something is definatly wrong here, but I guess all I can do atm is just play the campaign and observe the moon some more.

!!!!EDIT: It's got to do with SH3 Commander at least that's what I gather since I don't think the moon will go from full to 3/4 or probably only 2/3 in the course of a day. I've made the tests without SH3 Commander since I didn't know what first stopped me to try out my single missions, turned out they had to be saved to the same filename the folder has, I thought I might need to do a rollback first to get them working. I will later do the tests again with SH3 Commander enabled and see what happens, but there's something screwed up, when I launch SH3 Commander, it tells me last saved state is from 15 Mai of 1940 or something when it is the 6th of June, could be that this is the date I was last time in base tho. Anyway, I'll try the single missions again and tell you what I've found out. !!!!

I wonder if I should probably rollback everytime I leave SH3, maybe then things like this won't happen?

This problem keeps being posted. Its an original SH3 bug. The moon phases reset during game saves.
