View Full Version : Weekly MP Games
Firstly, I realize I should have posted this in the Multiplayer Matchup subforum but I am always overlooking threads there so I assume some of you do as well. Secondly, as a new member I am kind of jumping blindly into this so please forgive me if I am backtracking here.
Basically, I am getting really fed up with the loonies on GameSpy (with some exceptions ) and I want to get some of you oh so brilliant minds together on a regular basis to play some Dangerous Waters.
I realize there are lots of virtual fleets out there but I am not interested in the politics or the stringent regulations. I just want to spend an afternoon having fun. If there are some really competitive players interested maybe we can post results or AARs.
I am up to hosting games and providing missions. As far as mods, I would like to use LWAMI but I guess we can leave it up to a vote. Dates and times would depend on group consensus.
So who's game? :ping:

The CADC (Commanders Academy and Dive Center) graciously hosted by OneShot is THE place to be for organizing DW games. :smug:
Give it a look guys.

I'm going to be pretty busy until next Wed, but after that I'll probably be back in the swing of things, especially LW manages to get his mod where he wants it to be for awhile.
CADC isn't getting much traffic right now, but I would suggest that if we can build up a core group here to use the tools at CADC to set up matches. It worked really well for Furia.

I've been there. Not much activity. We'll see what kind of interest we can scrape up around here first :arrgh!:

The biggest problem the CADC faces right now is the fact that the vBulletin records were lost for the last year when the primary owner went AWOL (he's on deployment in the Navy, P-3's), so MUCH work on the part of its members was lost interms of keeping the site up to date with the latest information and tactics in DW.
Most of what is posted there now is pre-DW 1.03 and pre-LWAMI. :dead:
What I'd ask of Oneshot is to simply archive what is there now and perhaps ask a group of about 10 of us to completely redo all the information. The workload could easily be divided between such a group, and if everyone covers their assignment by going over a couple of subject areas, we could get the site off the ground again and then the posts would sustain themselves from there.
I'm very interested to hear everyone's thoughts about such a thing. All we really need is 10 people who will do what they say they will do. :)
Cheers,
David

Your first assignment is to check your PMs and get back to me on if that chart is accurate. Also, let me know when you've finalized all the speed changes in the next mod editions and whether you've made any adjustments to keep the PSL the same after the change.
Then I'll post the new chart to the reference charts thread. :p

LW, you know I don't like sloppy seconds. Well, maybe if I'm only second it won't be sloppy. But don't make me be third or I'll be really mad...unless you're really a girl. Then third is fine.
C'mon, a hundred views and only two are interested? I know you're out there!:ahoy:

How about this Saturday in the afternoon EST?
We'll pick the scenario based on the number of players interested, hopefully something some people haven't played a many times over. Although that having been said OKO's maps are fabulously replayable, and I'm sure it's been a while for most of us.
Hell, I haven't played in almost (maybe over) a year. Anyone around tonight?
Cheers,
David
Saturday is grand, do you have any specific time in mind? I'm free all day.

In GNSF (Global Naval Strike Force) we have several people that play everyday. Also on weekends we get even more activity.
Yes you do have to sign up - and report at least 1 mission per month. But having the ability to pop online at almost anytime and find someone to play with is worth any troubles a Virtual Navy may have, to me anyways.
Also, the competition is great. Especially if you enjoy sub vs sub. And team sub vs subs.
If your interested , see www.globalnavalstrikeforce.com (http://www.globalnavalstrikeforce.com)
Thanks

Ill be there, count me in, mates:p
All right, well, let's aim to get together at 1 PM EST. I'll be happy to host and will post my IP here shortly before the game. If nobody has any objections we will use the latest LWAMI. Tell your friends, should be awesome!

Hi fatty, all I got was the loading screen. It just hung up there. I went back to the IP but didn't see anything.
Hi JoeL, sorry I missed you, not sure what happened there.
Shall we try again this evening? We can give the new LWAMI a whirl if it's out by then.

I'll join (maby, I might end up having some things to do:cry:) if one of you will tell me how to work the MP. Never done it before, and me would like some instruction...:D
I'll host again in an hour and a half (8pm EST).
ASWnut, do you know how to connect to games? It's pretty simple. Just hit the multiplayer button on the main window, type in the IP address I posted here, and then select the room that comes up. Then it's just like playing regular single-player.
I can't really help with problems you may possibly encounter with routers, port forwarding, or firewalls, but maybe someone else here can.

My observations after watching that replay:
1. My evasion technique is not improved by not playing DW except for tests with Truth ususally ON.
1b. I hate APR-3's.:damn::damn:
2. You'd [LW] be dead meat if my evasion didn't suck so bad. Hell, if I had time for just a few more clicks...:oops::oops:
3. how the heck can you guys still be in game as close as those two were????!!!!

Nice shooting.:p
In a tense 3+ hour standoff centred on the Greek isle of Chios, USS Scranton (ML) and USS Jefferson City (me) faced off against two Akula-class boats, the Rys' (LuftWolf) and the Kugvar (JoeL).
The U.S. approached the isle from the north, with Scranton winding around the west and Jefferson City peeling off to the east. The area was rich with neutrals, so a nervous hold on weapons was maintained while contact data poured in. Shortly before rounding the isle, Jefferson City registered loud explosions originating from Scranton's last reported position far to the west.
Dejected but not losing sight of the mission, Jefferson City continued along the east coast of the isle in hopes of circling clockwise and flanking the Akulas. Kugvar was the first to emerge from the depths to make unwelcome advances towards Jefferson City, who valiantly defended herself and avenged her lost ally.
Now barrelling westward along the southern coast of the isle to flush out Rys', it wasn't long before the remaining U.S. sub's reckless speed invited SUBROCs to rain down. Despite a flurry of countermeasures, the end was inevitable.
Jefferson City and Scranton both missing and presumed lost with all hands. The second Akula remains at large.
Great game guys  Thanks again for connecting.

Maybe they were using high speeds to get within the 5nmi you need to get to in order for an MK48 hit?
I've not played MP match with the latest LWAMI mod or 1.04 yet. I'm guessing the US boats dont have a choice if they want to get within range to hit another sub - they need to gain distance...and a lot of it.

It's 7.7nm, and that's assuming he starts running the moment the torp is fired. In reality, you don't need to get quite that close because he's not going to run in a straight line at constant speed.
I managed to get within about 12nm unmolested, and got my torps nearly halfway to him before his uuv picked them up. There is a lot you can do when there's a layer and you have a detection range advantage. It was only my own incompetence in evading the APR-3 that let him get away. I had two torps in lethal range, but once I let myself get killed I couldn't guide them properly. I'm definitely looking forward to the next match, when my evasion won't be so poor.
And that was using a 688I. If I had been using a SW, I could have gotten even closer.
Maybe they were using high speeds to get within the 5nmi you need to get to in order for an MK48 hit?
Or maybe I was speeding up to get the land mass out of the way of my target and incorrectly estimated his position ;) By the way, JoeL and I practically collided before we detected each other. I believe there was something like 5,000-7,000 yards between us before I found some extremely faint tonals. SUBROCs at that range don't give you much of an advantage. It was a very intense few minutes and very fun. Great mod, great patch, great game!

My TMA had you at 320 around 7300 yards, but since my TMA is usually so bad, I didn't believe it. I used the SUROC's instead of torpedoes. That was dumb and as usual, I died after a dumb mistake. That was my first MP in the Akula. Great Mod LW, thanks for all the hard work; it makes for a fun game. Thanks to all for hosting and playing. I'll be glad to play again if the timing is right.

I'll probably be looking for action thursday. However, I'm not at all interested in a three-sided elimination match involving Blue on Blue combat. An elimination match were one side has a P-3 and the other sides have only subs is equally uninteresting.
More interesting setups would be anything that is objective-based (as opposed to an elimination match) or that tests out changes made in 1.04 and/or LW/Ami 3.04-3.07.

Thanks for the game...Glad to see I didn't make the same mistakes as last time...I made a few new ones, but I'm nearly "back." Yeah, watch the bottom. It's PK is pretty high!
Yes it was a lot  But not one found its mark, and all were fired quasi-blind i.e. based on TIW bearings rather than actual sonar contacts. I'm not sure what else we have to do to discredit the idea that Akulas have an unfair advantage with this patch.
I'll host again in an hour and a half if anyone's up for it
