A quick fix i think would be to delete the periscope sound i added in my mod pack.
Other then that, i honestly think its a hardware issue with certain sounds. If your using a soundcard thats onboard your motherboard.. well. that can be a big problem with games in general.
I know that that certain stock sounds on my cheapo generic phillips audio soundboard are rather.... unpleasant to say the least. So many sounds where painful i ended up replacing most of the sound directory when i was playing a modified version of stock. I havent had the problem with GWX.

I'm thinking yer right on the periscope sound,Which I happen to love the most.Dam i finally get an immersion factor that blows me away and my sound card flips a tit over it:down:

Grab a sound program and play with the sound files themselves.
Alot of times you can tweak them to fit your system better.
Audacity is free and works great for me.
If someone with a killer soundcard does a file it may go ape on us that have
soundcards built in.
I just re-edit them to suit my system.

You probably know this but I'll say it anyways in case you don't.
Move the slider in the control panel--sound--advanced--performance--hardware acceleration
This sometimes makes a difference.

Ya this just occured to me last night. Setting hardware accelleration to "basic" or "standard" sometimes makes a HUGE difference.
