A group of Polish players are working on a full translation of GWX into Polish. We hope to finish soon, but that's a tough task. :) From time to time we find passages that we simply can't understand at all, even after Wiki-ing, google-ing and dictionary searching. In name of the team I ask for your - English native speakers - assistance. I'll probably post more and more requests as time passes. Thanks in advance.
1. Radio Message:
From: U-96
To: BdU
Date: 1941/02/22
Homed on Condor beacon. Convoy spotted 1235 hours. Nav. Sq. AL 3668. Sunk damaged tanker for 7000 tons. Depth charged by escorts. Moderate damage. Contact lost.
What does "Homed on Condor beacon." mean? :)

An FW-200 (Condor) was shadowing a convoy and U-96 "followed" (homed in on) the radio signals (beacon)to make contact with the convoy.

Another problem. A pass about torpedoes: "One broached. Other ran in tube.". What does it mean? The first sentence is absolutely magic, the second (I suppose) means, that the torpedo engine started working before the torpedo was launched with the pressure of air, right?
EDIT: COuld you also please tell me, what is A/C? D/C stands for Depth Charges, so maybe A/C is something like Aircraft Charges? :hmm:

Broached means the torpedo "broke the surface"
Ran in tube means that the torpedo motor started but it didn't leave the tube.
Depending on the context A/C probably means "aircraft"

1 Instead of running straight to the target, the torpedo malfunctioned and ran in a circle.
2 Orepesa is a ship name, minesweeper. It's also a part of the minesweeper used to keep the sweep in postion.
Thanks for answer. I have a next question: What does mean I/KG ?
Thanks for answer. I have a next question: What does mean I/KG ?
My guess would be a Luftwaffe squadron. IIRC, squadron I/KG used Condors and was based in Norway at some point in the war.
Edit:
KG = Kampfgeschwader = Bomber Wing
So, I/KG would be the 1st Bomber Wing I suppose.

Well, very, very, very nearly :D
The I = Staffel (Squadron) Number
KG = Kampfgeschwader (Bomber Group). This followed by number of Group.
So: I/KG40 = Ist Squadron of KG40....who flew Fw200 Condors out of France and Norway.
Realise that this post is probably superfluous as well as boring. AvM probably got all he needed to know a couple of hours ago. Couldn't resist being a smart a***e though :smug:
Cheers all!
Thanks for the info Cheapskate.
Thanks for all answers
EDIT:
What does mean "Distress messages suggest traffic in area."

This seems to indicate that the sender of the message ( ? BDU or another friendly vessel ), has picked up radio distress messages from enemy vessel/s and suggesting that your sub should go and investigate, as there may be other targets in that area.
@ Dowly
You're very welcome sir :D Glad to see GTX has given Finland an Airforce at last! No Vesikko yet though:cry: Nice Brewster in your sig btw. Used by Kapt.Eino Luukanen and Ltn.Hans Wind -among others. Moved about a bit... started with 4/LeLv24, then 1/LeLv24, 3/LeLv24, lastly 2/LeLv24. Your guys used a similar system to the Luftwaffe - but you probably knew all that already!!
