recently i fired a fish at a medium merchant. her engines stopped and she was dead in the water. i waited like 5 hours for her to down but she just sat low in the water not moving in the slightest i might add.
i decided to finish her with another fish (weather bad for deck gun) however for some reason my fish kept missing (auto targeting on) it looks as though auto targeting fires as if the ship was still moving even though she was dead in the water. all the fish seemed to be leading the target and passing a good way accross her bow. btw i was a perfect 90 degrees on her starboard side. in frustration i quit it was after all my first patrol so no biggy. so is this a bug or what?

No, no bug...just bad weather!

I don't think it's a bug. Steamers and pther ships do sink after having been hit once, especially in bad weather. It can take a long time for them to sink though. I did wait for two days once for a Tramp Steamer to go down

its not the fact it didnt sink. i wanna know why my fish failed to hit a stationary target from 600m away and the weather wasnt that bad just not good enough for deck gun

I don't really know why your torpedo failed to hit a stationary target. You said you're using auto-targeting. I am asking the computer to do the solution calculations and the identification of the target as well so I haven't seen that before. I guess there must be a confusion and the AI thought the ship was still moving :hmm:

Were you moving while the WO made his calculations? If yes, maybe he thought the ship was moving, not the boat... Only a guess, as I don't use the automatic targetting. :|

What settings did you use :hmm:
In bad weather and from 600 metres out I would have manually tergetted an impact setting at 2 metres depth :yep:

He says his torpedoes miss astern, so it's rather not dud nor bouncing torpedoes.

Did you try to set the bearing, target speed (0) and all the rest manually in TDC? If the ship is not moving, it's unbelievably easy...

yeah i was so frustrated i didnt think of that. it was odd the fish (all 3) took the same path as if they had been set for a target moving at summat like 4knts and all of them past the bow of the target.

In fog or low visibilty the game sometimes gives false info on stopped ships
Have noticed it many a time - when further away the notepad will give the ship a speed that it had before stopped
If you fire then all torps will miss as its computed for a moving target
As you get closer the notepad gives the correct speed of 0
