that said here it is,

First things First, almost all credit for the existence of the River Class Frigate model goes deservingly to BigBoyWooly whom largely did the work to
create a ship that I desired and didnt have the slightest idea how to make. This ship is his creation in the main. also Credit to Von Helsching for the
work on the Damage model. Ref also I believe for hexediting guidance. I had the Idea to correct the ship in game but it would be a year after SH4 comes out without the help of these deserving gentlemen. If Ive missed anybody who contributed so far I havent meant to and apologize in advance as well as forward my thanks and gratitude to all who did contribute.

The ship itself is such a fun enemy that I was compelled to release it prior to modelling finish as its just to much fun to fight it is in my own opinion, the best ASW ship of the type 2's in the game, from the perspective of the submarine commander.

The original Riverclass DE (type3) Vanilla included seems to have been assembled from a conglomeration of research in which a few historical innaccuracies appeared. the river class DE from vanilla in the main seems to have been based on the "River Class Destroyers" of the time (Older A to H's renamed post transfer), the hull and deckform of the vanilla DE follow this model however the loadout would seem to be correct for a River class frigate of the later war, but not correct for the River class destroyers which these appeared to be. The RiverClass FF type 2, is not meant to replace these as they did exist in the realworld, it is meant to put the second most common
commonwealth combatant into SH3 for the first time.

River Class Frigate: 136 frigates 1942-1945 plus three completed postwar and approximately 110 ships cancelled.
1310-1537 tons, two 4'D/P (early UK units) or 1 x twin 4" D/P & 1 x 12 pdr QF single (for game 4" single), 1 x Hedgehog,
4 x Kguns,2 x DC racks. 150-200 depth charges.

the very first time I came up against a "River Class" in vanilla SH3 I was very exited to be going up against a ship with which I was totally familiar.
I was Largely disappointed when I discovered the DE. this mod is about correcting that.Long before SH3, I had occasion to research river class frigates when I met my wife, who's Grandfather Captained two Flower Class and two River Class Frigates, They didnt know much about what he did in his navy years and I took it upon myself to find out. while doing that something wonderful happened.

I became enchanted With the River Class Frigates and their rather amazing history, william reed of smiths drydock company had come to noteworthiness
when the British admiralty had asked him to convert a commercial design into a small warship, a Request which resulted in the flower class corvette. which filled the niche of being able to be constructed by non military commercial shipyards. relieving the navy yards to work the fleet units. with the added
bonus of training the vast numbers of totally unskilled shipbuilders. it worked as an emergency measure and proved of course to be totally seaworthy.
As such the Flower class corvette was the most numerous commonwealth combatant in the battle of the atlantic, the admiralty much pleased had asked
Mr Reed to try to do the same thing in the other direction. to turn a military design into a commercial construction, in an effort to resolve the shortcomings of the Flower class. while still making escorts that could be made in a timely fashion by the, by then skilled shipyards. Reed seems to have taken the hull directly from the succesful Blackswan class sloops themselves directly descended from the Bitterns. Reed had to consider in his design the availablities of powerplants and projected shortages of equipment such as guns etc he made simple expedients by reducing the surface armament
to what was needed to cope with escort duty.he could create conditions whereby more ships would be ready sooner. The simple reciprocating steam plant of the flower class was largely available throughout the commonwealth shipyards in question and was already being built as the steam engine had power couplings at each end he simply reversed one and put two side by side in the chosen hull, simple available and with the added bonus of an extra 1/2 knot or two. by simply raising the bridgewings and moving the aft bandstand aft between the downtakes he vastly improved the effective coverage of the limited AA suite. The ships were built, and although they were not necessarily the ideal in ocean going escorts they were a fantastic balance of foresighted compromises that if not Ideal were totally succesfull. in their history they saved far more lives than they took they were capable as escorts and were able to be effective in hunter killer groups beyond that. in their time they sank their fare share of uboats and served for several decades in many countries after the war in the fifties a River Class FF was the vehicle in which britains first nuclear test took place. another is credited with a tank kill in the Korean conflict. one exists today
in australia preserved as a museum as it was during the war and another still acitvely sails the mediteranean as "Christina" the restored yacht of aristotle onassis giving expensive luxury cruises on the med to this day for many thousands of dollars.

I cant help but feel that they missed their place in the great ships of history. and although I cant correct that I can get the second most common
commonwealth combatant put into SH3. Incidently they are a very worthy opponent in game. Be cautious and careful fellow kaleuns. they will be available for missions but will only generate in your random campaign layer
as generic type 2's unless you enter them into the scripted layer of the campaign files.
(as they are deadly enemies Id recomend it for those capable)

The mod is GWX tested and JSGME compatable though in order to get it to
work you will have to manually enter the Riverff into eng names cfg
( see eng names cfg readme attached ) also for those anxious to see if Im
right about the fighting qualities of this ship I have included a single mission skirmish against them under the name "SeaTrialsRiverFF" enjoy

if you experience any problems with mission or mod post it on the mod release thread for help. thanks for downloading RiverClass FF Beta.v1.0

Its interesting to note that you spend more hours online here in a given day
than any other members, and have a higher average of posts per day than all
as well, even when your on a three week work stint and take it from me over the last couple of months there are far worse fates in the twenty first century
than having to much work.

Uber sub test a verfd success will send info later.MM

In as much as I am able to determine regardless of its version origin
River FF type 2 beta is a self contained mod and should work fine with
and cause no damage to any version of sh3 from vanilla on up.

thanks for the feed back I havent gotten much and if you play against them
in the single mission we would love to hear about your experiences and impressions and if you feel like it maybe a few screenies.

enjoy and thanks and dont miss the part in the readme that says be careful
they're dangerous opponents..........

When these come after me, its time to hit the road!:rotfl: Doesn't seem fair when one sits and listens for my position, while the other drops hogs on me like I'm at a State Fair!!LOL If I ain't runnin', I'm repairing, then run a bit more, then try to repair, then its off to Davey Jones locker!! What a blast!

I have to say that as a person of extremes it is not suprising that I chose
the opposite of wimpier escorts.
